Measles isn’t just a rash. For people with certain cancers or weakened immune systems from cancer treatment, measles can be especially dangerous. The CDC says people with compromised immune systems are at high risk for severe complications. Those complications can include pneumonia and encephalitis. There’s another concern for cancer patients: people with severely weakened immune systems may not be able to receive the live MMR vaccine. Exposure to measles can also disrupt cancer care and delay treatment. Vaccination doesn’t protect only you. It helps protect people who may not be able to protect themselves.
Talk to your physician. Get the facts. Get vaccinated.

Yep. I got both. And I got them on the same day.But that’s just me. I don’t give medical advice. Your doctor does. Talk to your physician or someone on their healthcare team about what’s right for you. Prevention matters.

There are a lot of people online telling you to do your own research. Many of them are also trying to sell you something.
A Google search is not medical training. A podcast is not peer review. Someone selling essential oils, supplements, fear or made up research is not your physician.
Ask questions. Pay attention. If you have questions about flu or COVID vaccines, talk to your physician, not the comments section.
Your decision can also affect someone you love, including a person living with cancer, chronic illness or increased risk because of age.
Talk to your physician. Get the facts.

When a hospital closes, the emergency does not move closer.
More than 100 rural hospitals have closed in the past decade. More than 700 additional rural hospitals are at risk, and fewer than half still provide labor and delivery.
These are not just budget decisions. They can mean longer ambulance rides, longer drives during labor, and less time when every minute matters. Federal cuts can put even more pressure on hospitals already struggling to remain open.
Make a family plan now:
• Identify your nearest open emergency room and a backup.
• Confirm where labor and delivery and other essential services are available.
• Save the routes and telephone numbers.
• Share your location with someone you trust when traveling for urgent care.
• Ask your physician where to go after hours.
In a life-threatening emergency, call 911. Do not delay care.

HPV vaccination is cancer prevention.
I’ve heard some extraordinary reasons for not giving a child the HPV vaccine including the idea that vaccination somehow encourages sexual activity. Research does not support that. The reason to vaccinate early is much simpler: the vaccine works best before exposure to HPV.
HPV can cause cervical, a**l, pe**le, vaginal, vulvar and oropharyngeal cancers.
And here is the number worth remembering: CDC says HPV vaccination can prevent more than 90% of cancers caused by HPV.
This isn’t about judging anyone’s future behavior. It’s about giving the immune system protection against a virus that can cause cancer.
Ask questions. Get good information. Talk to your physician.

Measles is more than a rash.
It can mean pneumonia, hospitalization, brain inflammation, lasting complications and death.
The numbers are moving in the wrong direction.

This is one person. The coming Medicaid changes could put coverage at risk for millions more.
For people who are seriously ill, paperwork isn’t a small thing. Missed forms, reporting requirements and complicated eligibility decisions can put health coverage in jeopardy. Cancer treatment doesn’t wait while paperwork gets sorted out.
States will have an important role in implementation. Ask your state representative how your state plans to protect people in active cancer treatment from losing coverage.

We knew how to prevent this.
For decades, vaccination pushed measles out of everyday life in America. Millions of illnesses, hospitalizations and deaths have been prevented because generations of parents vaccinated their children.
Now we are experiencing the highest number of U.S. measles cases in more than 35 years.
Children are getting sick. Some are being hospitalized. Some have died.
The science didn’t suddenly stop working.
The vaccine didn’t suddenly stop working.
What changed was our willingness to use what we already know works.
This isn’t a failure of science.
It’s a failure of leadership.
Please talk with your physician and rely on qualified medical guidance.
