Jean Marie Carstensen
In the afternoon on December 25th, 2022, Jean Marie Carstensen, of Omaha Nebraska, passed away in her sleep at the age of 65.

Jean and her twin brother, John Burns, were welcomed into the Burns family on August 8th, 1957. The Burns family is a big clan with 6 children but Jean took pride in claiming to be the baby of the family.

Jean grew up in Grand Island, until being relocated to North Platte to finish out high school and she graduated from North Platte’s Saint Patrick High School in 1975. After graduation, life's best adventures began for Jean. John and Jean with their scuba license in hand they took of to South America to experience what life had to offer. Jean and John would later on instill this love of traveling with their spouses and siblings and it later spread onto adventures with their own families as well.

After this gap year filled with adventure she decided that nursing school was right for her and she chose to dedicate her life to other people. Whether that be the countless new nurses that she welcomed to the floor, or her patients that she cared for on a daily basis.
These yearly trips kept her sane and calm during her shift in the busy Emergency Room never wanting to mutter the word “quiet”. While the Emergency room was quiet she was quick to make a joke, sing poker face by Lady Gaga.

In 1981 Jean met the love of her life, Tom Carstensen. Soulmates is the best way to describe the infectious love that they had for each other. Together they raised two amazing children, Josh and Jill, they were truly her pride and joy. Tom and Jean were always the first to volunteer to be the coaches, chaperones, or anything they could do to provide great experiences for their children and their friends.

Jean was the best Gmom there could ever be. She loved her grandchildren more than anything. Joslyn, Jonah, and Julien could always count on seeing her in the stands of their sporting events, school awards, or an impromptu speech at a an Eagle Scout celebration. Jean loved to celebrate life with her family. All of her siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins were just as important to her as her own family. She loved when they all could be together, especially in the Snowy Range, her happy place, where we will be spreading her ashes this summer near her late brother Steve Burns and along with her sister in law Candi Burns.

Jean is preceded in death by her mother Vivian, her father Harold, her brother Steve, and her Sister Nancy. Jean is survived by her husband Tom, her daughter, Jill and her three children Joslyn, Jonah, and Julien, her son, Josh (significant other, Missy), her brother John(Candi) her sister Mary(Jerry), her brother Gary(Sandra), and countless nieces and nephews that she loved very much.

Trevor Lee Melton, 58, of Omaha, NE, passed away on November 27, 2022 after a short, but difficult, battle with lung cancer.

Trevor was born March 19, 1964, the fourth child in a line of six, to Donald and Elda (Lee) Melton in Omaha, NE. It was his fourth birthday when he received the most unexpected gift — a baby brother, whom he had the privilege of sharing a birthday cake with each year after that.

Trevor was a little hellion in his younger years, stirring up as much trouble as he could with his brothers and a few close friends who didn’t mind taking a walk on the dark side with him. Trevor had a love for all things pertaining to cars, ranging from driving a tow truck or a tractor trailer, working under the hood of numerous vehicles for hours on end, or even just watching cars being overhauled on his favorite TV shows.

Trevor dealt with a few hard blows through his life. Namely, losing his eyesight and becoming legally blind in his thirties due to a disease that caused his retinas to hemorrhage, and of course his battle with cancer. Through all of it, up to the very end, Trevor kept his sense of humor. He was always quick to crack a joke, tell a funny story, or tease someone/anyone/everyone without discrimination.

Trevor will be missed beyond measure. His humor or ability to share a funny story or willingness to help others could never be matched. He was the person anyone could call and he would be there to help in any way possible, no matter how big or small the situation or problem. You could always count on him to help. Always.

Trevor was survived by the great love of his life, Robin; daughter Stacy; son Ray; grandchildren Amber, Sean, and Jack; sister Toni, brother Troy (Pam), brother Tom (Charlie) and sister Teri (JD); many other extended family members and friends; and his favorite feline PITA Girl.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother, Tracy.

Janice (Jan) Lea Davis, daughter of Kenneth and Madeline Burnett, was born April 25, 1948, in West Des Moines, IA. Growing up, Jan enjoyed family trips including Yosemite National Park, and spending time playing cards with her grandmother.

Jan married Kenneth Davis July 10, 1969, and subsequently moved to Sioux Falls. Jan had two children, Erik and Jennifer.

Jan became a full time in-home babysitter for several years which allowed her to stay home and raise her two children. She babysat three children for one family in particular from the time they were babies until the oldest was in grade school. Jan enjoyed cooking, helping her children with their homework, sewing and making clothes including Halloween costumes, and knitting/crocheting. On the weekends, Jan enjoyed getting together with her extended family (the Buskols) and close friends, (who still remember Jan’s laugh!). Jan also enjoyed family camping trips and vacations including The Black Hills and Yellowstone National Park.

Jan raised Erik and Jennifer in the Catholic Church and attended mass every Sunday with them. She often sang in the choir.

Jan remained very close to her parents, brothers and sisters, and looked forward to family gatherings in Des Moines for the holidays.

Jan eventually began a career as a bookkeeper/office manager at Jan’s Corp in Sioux Falls. Jan and Kenneth were divorced in 1995, and she then moved back to Omaha, NE and began working at JQ Office Equipment until retiring in 2012 and moved to Ankeny, IA to live with her sister Joyce. They enjoyed doing knitting, quilting, and various crafts together.

In 2018, Jan moved back to Omaha to spend more time with her children and grandchildren Sidney, Allyia, Kelvin, and her great grandson Malakhi.

Survivors include Jan’s son Erik (and wife Connie) Davis; daughter Jennifer Davis; grandchildren Sidney (and husband Jacob), Allyia (and boyfriend Dominic) and Kelvin; great grandson Malakhi; sisters Linda Cain and Joyce Pardock; sister-in-law Bobby Burnett; and several nieces and nephews.
