Yesterday, Dr. Gall performed a bilateral TPLO on Luna (4yo saffordshire terrier mix), a GMVS family member, to correct her torn cruciate ligaments. Bilateral TPLOs can be done safely and reasonably on certain dogs (those that fit the guidelines of particular body types/weights/breeds), and with owners who are educated on and prepared for the challenges of the first 1-2 weeks of post-op recovery. Luna has been home for about 24hrs and has, thus far, exceeded the expectations of recovery. Luna is happy, calm, eating, and comfortable. We also strongly recommend and offer the use of Nocita (a long-acting pain control injection) for our surgical patients to aid in procuring a more pleasant recovery period. Note: the small incision seen in the last photo, on her hip, was a skin tag removal.
