Resident Spotlight: Richard Mohr

A retired University of Illinois Professor of Philosophy and of the Classics, Richard has spent a lifetime exploring ideas that shape how we understand the world.

His work spans ancient Greek philosophy, American ceramics, Inuit art, and groundbreaking contributions to LGBTQ+ studies, including writing that helped influence the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court decision on marriage equality.

Richard and his husband of 48 years, Bob, found ClarkLindsey at just the right moment in their lives, and that's when Richard found The Gallery here.

Through his writings, curating shows in The Gallery, charitable initiatives, and presence on the community listserv, he is enriching the lives of fellow residents, sparking conversation, encouraging learning, and reminding us all that discovery doesn’t end at any age.

At ClarkLindsey, Richard isn’t just reflecting on a life of impact, he’s still creating it.

🦋 New Beginnings Happen Everyday 🦋

Yesterday, residents gathered to witness something truly special... a Monarch butterfly emerging from its chrysalis and being released into the ClarkLindsey Assisted Living Naturescape before she begins her next journey in life.

At Lindsey Communities, we have the privilege of witnessing new beginnings across every stage of living and care, from making a new friend in Independent Living, discovering a new passion in Assisted Living, finding moments of connection in Memory Care, celebrating progress in Skilled Care, receiving support at home through Lindsey Life Home Care, or enjoying meaningful engagement at our Adult Day Centers in Champaign and Decatur.

Each day brings opportunities to grow, connect, adapt, and thrive.

Thank you to our residents for sharing in this beautiful reminder that life's most meaningful transformations can happen at any stage... and that we're all, in our own way, still becoming 🦋.

🎨Resident Artist Spotlight: Ken

Today, ClarkLindsey's MeadowBrook was filled with creativity, conversation, and community as we celebrated resident-artist Ken at his Artist Reception!

Residents from across our campus gathered to admire Ken's unique collection of artwork displayed throughout MeadowBrook.

When asked which artwork was his favorite, Ken didn't hesitate, "the ones of my grandkids!"

His answer was a beautiful reminder that while art can capture places, moments, and ideas, the people we love often inspire our most treasured creations.

We're grateful for opportunities like these to celebrate the talents, passions, and life stories that make our community so special. Thank you, Ken, for sharing your gifts with all of us and allowing us to celebrate you today!

Can we hear it for Ken? Drop him a comment below 👇

What if aging isn't something that just happens to us? What if it's something we can influence?

Today, ClarkLindsey residents had the opportunity to learn from experts connected to the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, home to some of the world's leading scientists studying aging and longevity.

Their mission is centered on healthspan, the number of years we spend living in good health, not just the number of years we live. Researchers at the Buck Institute believe that aging is more flexible and responsive than once thought, and that many of the choices we make every day can help shape how we age. (BUCK)

👉One message stood out: We have agency in our own health and aging!

While none of us can stop time, science continues to show that healthy habits, meaningful relationships, physical activity, lifelong learning, and a sense of purpose can all contribute to a longer, healthier life. The goal isn't simply adding years to life, it's adding life to our years. (Buck Academy)

At ClarkLindsey, we're proud to foster a community where residents continue to learn, grow, and take an active role in their well-being. Because healthy aging isn't just about getting older, it's about continuing to live our best life!

This morning, one of our ClarkLindsey residents harvested some fresh Romaine lettuce from our Kitchen Garden Project garden bed.

This fresh lettuce will be served to residents, right here, in our own dining room.

At ClarkLindsey, we're never done growing... in every sense of the word!
