Today is National Fentanyl Awareness Day 💜

Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that has become a major contributor to overdose deaths across the country. Many people are exposed without even knowing it, as it is often mixed into other substances. This makes awareness, education, and open conversation more important than ever.

At our therapy office, we believe that knowledge saves lives. Talking with teens and young adults about substance use, peer pressure, and safety can feel difficult, but these conversations truly matter.

Today, we encourage you to:
Learn the facts about fentanyl and overdose risks
Have honest, age-appropriate conversations with your kids and loved ones
Reduce stigma around substance use and mental health
Know the signs of overdose and how to respond

If you or someone you love is struggling with substance use or mental health challenges, support is available. You don’t have to face it alone.

Together, we can create safer, more informed communities 💜

It’s Iowa State Fair Week 🎡💛

The fair is a time for fun, tradition, and making memories with friends and family. From live music and amazing food to busy crowds and packed schedules, it can also be a lot to take in.

At our therapy office, we want to remind everyone that it’s okay to take care of your mental health, even during exciting events like the fair.

Give yourself permission to:
Take breaks when you need them
Step away from crowds if things feel overwhelming
Stay hydrated, rested, and nourished
Check in with yourself and your emotions throughout the day

For teens especially, big events can bring both excitement and stress. Finding a balance between enjoying the moment and honoring your limits is key.

Have fun, stay safe, and remember that your well-being matters just as much as the memories you make 💚

🌿 Happy International Self Care Day! 🌿

Today is a reminder that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish. It is essential. Self care can look different for everyone. It might mean setting boundaries, getting outside for a walk, taking a few deep breaths, reaching out to someone you trust, or simply allowing yourself time to rest.

Small moments of care can make a big difference in supporting your mental and emotional well being. Wherever you are in your journey, remember that your well being matters.

Take a moment today to do something kind for yourself. You deserve it. 💚

As we celebrate the Fourth of July, we wish you and your loved ones a safe, joyful, and meaningful holiday. ❤️🤍💙
While this day is often filled with gatherings, fireworks, and traditions, it's important to remember that holidays can bring a wide range of emotions. Some people feel excitement and connection, while others may experience stress, grief, loneliness, or anxiety.
No matter what you're feeling this Independence Day, your experience is valid. Give yourself permission to celebrate in ways that support your well-being, set healthy boundaries when needed, and take moments to rest and recharge.
From all of us at Foundations Therapy and Consulting, we wish you a happy and healthy Fourth of July!

June is PTSD Awareness Month, and June 27th is National PTSD Awareness Day.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can affect anyone who has experienced a traumatic event. It may show up as flashbacks, anxiety, sleep difficulties, or emotional numbness, and it can impact daily life in profound ways.

Awareness is the first step toward understanding and support. If you or someone you love is living with PTSD, seeking help from a trained mental health professional can provide effective tools for healing and coping. Therapy, support groups, and self-care strategies can all play a role in recovery.

This month, we honor the resilience of those living with PTSD, reduce stigma, and remind everyone that help is available and healing is possible.

You are not alone. Support is out there.

Sophie (she/her) is a Licensed Master Social Worker through the state of Iowa. She earned both her bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in social work from the University of Iowa. Her professional experience includes working with young children, teens, and adults. She also previously worked as a direct support professional supporting adults with intellectual disabilities.

Sophie strives to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where clients can safely explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. She approaches therapy with a collaborative perspective, meeting clients where they are in their journey. Sophie believes that therapy is a supportive partnership that empowers individuals to navigate life’s challenges while fostering growth, resilience, and self-understanding. Her therapeutic approach is person-centered and strengths- based, drawing from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and solution-focused techniques. Sophie works alongside clients to identify their strengths, build effective coping strategies, and create meaningful change that aligns with their goals and values.

She works with ages 12+ and is especially passionate about working with neurodivergent & LGBTQIA+ populations. She is available to see both individuals and couples/families. Some of her clinical focus includes: anxiety, depression, identity exploration, body image, disordered eating, life transitions, and relationship challenges.

Outside of work, Sophie enjoys spending time with her cat, Lennon, and with friends and family. She loves discovering new shows and movies and is always looking for recommendations to add to her ever-growing watchlist. She also enjoys reading, baking, crafting, and trying out new coffee shops around the area.

Father’s Day is a time to honor and celebrate the fathers, father figures, and mentors in our lives.

This day is an opportunity to show appreciation for the guidance, support, and love that dads provide. It’s also a reminder that mental and emotional health matters for fathers too. Many fathers face unique pressures, stress, and expectations that can impact their wellbeing, and seeking support is a sign of strength.

Whether it’s spending quality time together, sharing a conversation, or simply checking in, small gestures can make a meaningful difference.

Today, we celebrate fathers everywhere and the positive impact they have on their families and communities.
