Feelings of helplessness and powerlessness go hand in hand with anxiety. When you feel like you have little or no control in various settings, it makes you more anxious. Therefore, developing control is an important part of anxiety treatment. But, the equal and crucial component that goes along with it is learning and embracing the giving up control of what you cannot control or change, and not feeling responsible for it.
Feeling responsible for other people's feelings and lives will make you nuts, which, as you know, is a technical word for anxious (ha). We can never feel secure if we are because there is nothing we can do to make it happen. They are in control of themselves, not us. And only we are in control of ourselves.
If you've been in a relationship with someone who has narcissistic tendencies, and you've felt anxious and out of control, I'd like to invite you to join me for my next workshop by tapping the link below. I want to help you take back control of your life and show you how to find safety in healthy relationships.
