๐Ÿ“ฃ EMDR and DBT group for teens ๐Ÿ“ฃ

Rooted in Resilience, our 12 week curriculum based group, is getting ready for a new round. Group will start Monday, September 14th from 6:00pm to 7:15pm in our Urbandale office, weekly.

Developed by Kenya Rocha LMHC and John Roarick LISW, it is designed specifically for adolescents who have experienced trauma and exhibit symptoms of emotional intensity.

This program helps participants reinterpret emotional responses as meaningful information, and gives them the tools to manage their needs more effectively.

Peer connection is increasingly disrupted these days, and this group provides a safe and supportive environment that fosters healthy vulnerability, emotional growth, and meaningful social interaction.

To participate in this group, teens must have an individual therapist, and at least one parent or legal guardian must participate in the parent partner group, which runs bi-weekly at the same time as the Rooted in Resilience group.

If you, or someone you know, could benefit from this group, please visit the links in the comments to schedule an intake with our group facilitators!

July 10th is Chronic Disease Awareness Day.

Chronic disease often asks people to do life in a different rhythm โ€“ one that values small steps, gentle care, and listening closely to what the body needs.

Today, weโ€™re highlighting the fact that support doesnโ€™t always have to be big or complicated. It can look like pacing your energy, choosing simple nourishing foods, building in rest before exhaustion hits, and leaning on small comforts that make the day go by a little easier.

There is no perfect way to manage a chronic condition, just many small, meaningful ways to support yourself along the way. And every bit of care that you give to yourself counts.

Check out some of our tips on todayโ€™s image to see how you can support yourself or a loved one who is living with a chronic condition!

"As we make our way through Pride Month, we are reminded of the nuances and unique challenges LGBTQIA+ individuals experience in the therapy setting. Folks that identify within the LGBTQIA+ community grapple with acceptance, identity exploration, anxiety, and many other mental health constructs in a complex manner.

Not only is acknowledging and having awareness of the struggles experienced by those in the LGBTQIA+ community crucial, but being able to have a sense of community and a space to celebrate q***r joy is just as important.

Representation for the LGBTQIA+ community within therapeutic spaces is necessary. A large portion of mental health treatment is instilling hope and providing healthy attachment characterized by acceptance and humility. Working with a therapist that identifies as LGBTQIA+ provides clients with a safe space in which they can openly explore themselves without the fear of judgment and with an awareness of what it means to be LGBTQIA+ in today's age.

As a q***r, provisionally licensed, mental health therapist, this representation is especially close to my heart. Being able to support my LGBTQIA+ community members by providing therapy services means that my fellow community members are having an opportunity to safely express, celebrate, confide, process, and explore their experiences/identities. Feeling welcomed in a space is necessary to feel secure and safe (both of which are essential for a strong therapeutic alliance), and if that means I can contribute to a profession to make it more welcoming and understanding for others similar to me, I am more than honored to do so."

๐Ÿณ๏ธ๐ŸŒˆ Happy Pride Month! ๐Ÿณ๏ธ๐ŸŒˆ

This month, we celebrate individuality, inclusivity, love, and the rich history of the LGBTQIAP+ community. We honor those who have helped pave the way toward greater acceptance and those who continue to live authentically every day.

At Mosaic Family Counseling Center, we are committed to providing a safe, affirming, and compassionate space where everyone is seen, valued, and supported. ๐Ÿซ‚
