Chronic pain doesn't just live in your body. It changes the way your brain processes pain signals over time.

When pain persists for months or years, the nervous system can become sensitized, amplifying signals even when the original injury has healed. This is called central sensitization, and it's one reason why chronic pain can feel unpredictable, widespread, and resistant to typical treatments.

Chiropractic care helps address this loop by restoring normal joint movement and reducing the nerve interference that keeps the pain cycle going. Combined with rehab and lifestyle support, it can help your nervous system recalibrate.

Understanding your pain is the first step to changing it.

Balance isn't something you just lose with age. It's a skill your nervous system can be retrained to perform better.

Tandem stance holds (standing heel-to-toe near a wall) are one of the simplest and safest ways to challenge your proprioception, the body's ability to sense its own position in space. Start with eyes open, progress to eyes closed, and use the wall as a safety net, not a crutch.

This kind of training matters especially for patients with hEDS, post-injury instability, or anyone who's been told their balance just isn't what it used to be.

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

If you have hypermobility or hEDS, not all chiropractic care is created equal and the wrong approach can actually make things worse.

High-velocity, high-rotation adjustments that work well for a typical patient can put hypermobile joints at risk. That's why the Gonstead Method is such a strong fit: it uses low-rotation technique, targets only what's misaligned, and avoids unnecessary force on joints that are already unstable.

At Meier Family Chiropractic, we assess before we adjust, every single time. Our goal isn't to move every joint. It's to stabilize the ones that need it most.

Safe, specific care for complex bodies.

Most people assume chiropractors adjust everything, a full crack from neck to lower back, every visit. The Gonstead Method is built on a completely different philosophy.

We only adjust the vertebrae that are actually misaligned and causing dysfunction. Every other joint is left alone, on purpose. This precision matters because over-adjusting hypermobile joints or areas that don't need intervention can do more harm than good.

Every visit starts with a thorough analysis: X-ray review, palpation, motion testing, and a review of your history. Nothing gets adjusted until we know exactly what needs it and why.

Intentional care, every time.

Professional, compassionate, and capable. I really enjoy the personal touch Dr. Nick gives. He truly strives to KNOW his patients and takes the time to understand each one of us. I'm a frustrating case at best, but it doesn't deter him from continually going the extra mile. He even researches things with you if need be.

Pain that seems to move around your body, from your neck to your shoulder to your lower back, isn't random and it's not all in your head.

Referred pain happens when a nerve or structure in one area of the spine sends pain signals to a completely different location. A compressed disc in your lower back can cause pain down your leg. Misalignment in your neck can trigger headaches or arm tingling. The source is rarely where it hurts.

This is exactly why accurate assessment matters before any treatment begins. At Meier Family Chiropractic, we use the Gonstead method to identify the actual origin of your pain so we're treating the cause, not just chasing the symptoms.

If this resonates, we're here when you're ready.

When you're managing chronic pain, starting slow isn't a weakness. It's the strategy.

Picking one or two exercises and doing them consistently, with good form, will outperform a complicated routine done sporadically every time. The nervous system and connective tissue respond to repetition and gradual load, not bursts of effort followed by days of recovery.

Track your progress week by week. Celebrate small wins. And don't add more until what you're doing feels easy.

That's the approach we use at Meier Family Chiropractic, rehab that's built around where you are right now.

If you have hEDS, hypermobility, or a complex chronic condition, you know the exhaustion of walking into a new provider and starting from scratch, only to feel dismissed, or worse, finding yourself in the position of educating them about your own condition.

That's not how it works here.

At Meier Family Chiropractic, we come to you already knowing. We take the time to understand your history and build care around what your body actually needs, not a generic protocol.

You shouldn't have to explain yourself over and over, advocate for your own pain, or leave an appointment feeling worse than when you arrived.
If you're ready for care that gets it, we'd love to hear from you.
