I know most of our patients don't live in Anoka County, but these are the same laws for everyone in the metro area. Remember to check the speed for your helmets. Most bike helmets are not rated for the speed of e-scooters and e-bikes.

🚲✨ E-scooters, E-bikes, Motorized Bikes, and E-motos… Do YOU know the rules?

As these devices become more popular across Minnesota, it's important to stay informed and keep our community safe. Here’s a quick guide to help riders understand the differences:

• Minimum Ages:
E‑Scooters: 12
E‑Bikes & Motorized Bikes: 15
E‑Motos: 16

• Helmet Requirements:
Required for riders under 18 on E‑Scooters, Motorized Bikes, and E‑Motos. Helmets are recommended for E‑Bikes.

• Passengers:
Not allowed unless the E-Bike is specifically designed for it.

• Licensing & Registration:
Required for Motorized Bikes and E‑Motos; not needed for E‑Scooters or E‑Bikes.

• Where You Can Ride:
Bike paths & trails: E‑Scooters and E‑Bikes allowed
Sidewalks: Generally no — E‑Bikes may be allowed in some areas

Roadways: All four types allowed
Max speeds vary from 15 MPH to 30+ MPH.

We are hearing about more and more accidents from ebikes and scooters. Please research the appropriate ages for the bike or scooter, make sure your child is wearing the correct helmet for how fast they could be going and teach them the rules of the bike/scooter and the rules of the road.
