Legacy Behavioral Health Our mission is to empower hope and wellness through exceptional, personalized care.

Legacy Behavioral Health is a public nonprofit organization operated by the South Georgia Community Service Board. Community Service Boards are legal entities created by House Bill 100 in July, 1994, to govern Public Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services. These services were previously provided by the Department of Human Resources, Division of Mental Health. Public funding for the Community Service Boards is provided by the state through a system of regional funding and planning authorities. These funding authorities are called Regional Boards and the public funding for Legacy Behavioral Health is through a contractual relationship with the Region 4 Regional Board. Legacy is licensed by the State of Georgia and complies with the state standards.

The Drug Enforcement Administration has issued a Public Safety Alert warning Americans of the alarming increase in the lethality and availability of fake prescription pills containing fentanyl and methamphetamine. The Public Safety Alert coincides with the launch of DEA’s One Pill Can Kill Public Awareness Campaign to educate the public of the dangers of counterfeit pills and urges all Americans to take only medications prescribed by a medical professional and dispensed by a licensed pharmacist. https://prescriptiondrugdisposal.com/ If you need a safe disposal location for unused medications please drop them off at the Lowndes County Jail.

Partnering with Parents for Prevention!

Legacy Behavioral Health was proud to take part in the Parent Engagement Session at Lowndes Middle School!

Our Prevention Specialist and Youth Initiative Project Director, Erica Simpson, spoke with parents about substance misuse prevention, sharing valuable information and practical strategies to help support the health and well-being of our youth.

We were also grateful for the opportunity to connect families with resources for our school-based mental health services through Apex, as well as provide fi***rm safety trigger locks to promote safe storage and help protect children and families.

Thank you to Lowndes Middle School for inviting Legacy to be part of this important conversation! We appreciate the opportunity to partner with parents, educators, and our community to support healthier, safer, and stronger youth. 💙

💙 Celebrating Our Peer Support Team! 💙

Today, we are proud to recognize the amazing Peer Support Team at Legacy Behavioral Health and the meaningful work they do each day to support individuals on their journey toward recovery, wellness, and hope.

Peer support is powerful because it is rooted in connection, understanding, and lived experience. Our Peer Support Specialists remind those we serve that they do not have to navigate their journey alone. Through encouragement, compassion, and genuine connection, they help individuals recognize their strengths, build confidence, and move toward the life they envision for themselves.

Peer Support Manager, Lauren Saporito, beautifully describes what makes this work so meaningful:

“What makes peer support special is meeting someone right where they are, standing beside them through what works for their unique journey, and helping light their own path.”

We are incredibly grateful for Lauren and our entire Peer Support Team for the heart, dedication, and hope they bring to their work. Your impact reaches far beyond the services you provide—you help people see that recovery is possible and that their story still has many chapters ahead.

💙 Youth Voices Making a Difference in Our Community!
Legacy Behavioral Health’s Youth Prevention Initiative Youth Leadership Council recently presented to the Valdosta City Council about the importance of proper v**e disposal. These ambitious students educated community leaders about the environmental and safety dangers of sending v**es to landfills and emphasized the need for a collaborative effort to develop a safe, sustainable disposal solution. 🌱♻️

We are incredibly proud of these young leaders for using their voices to advocate for positive change and a healthier community!

Proud to Partner with Moody Air Force Base! ✈️
Legacy Behavioral Health is proud to partner with Moody Air Force Base to provide meaningful mental health education and support to the leaders who serve our community.
Our clinician, Leslie Ruff, recently led a wonderful group of leaders through an engaging education session covering PTSD, Trauma, Vicarious Trauma, Coping Skills, and Conflict Resolution. 🧠💙
We are grateful for the openness, participation, and thoughtful conversations from this incredible group. Creating spaces where leaders can learn, connect, and strengthen their mental health knowledge is an important part of building healthier, more resilient communities.
We look forward to continuing this partnership and providing more education sessions and opportunities to support the Moody AFB community!
