Southern OB/GYN provides specialized care for women in the areas of gynecology, obstetrics and infertility evaluation. We strive to provide the highest-quality health care in a professional setting and hope to maintain your confidence throughout our patient/physician relationship. In addition to our physicians, our staff includes five nurse midwives and three nurse practitioners. Our midwives are
available to offer expert, personalized care to OB patients who prefer the services of a certified nurse midwife. Our nurse practitioners provide specialized care in the areas of gynecological/family planning, birth control, sexually transmitted diseases and medical counseling. They also perform routine gynecological exams and make appropriate referrals for problems outside their area of expertise. In 2015, Southern OB/GYN extended its care for patients struggling with nutritional issues with the addition of a registered dietitian. Within the Southern OB/GYN office, our patients conveniently have access to our in-house laboratory for any lab work recommended by our providers. Our office also has four ultrasound machines, two digital mammography machines, and a bone densitometer. Southern OB/GYN was the first facility in Lowndes County to offer Genius 3D Mammography to patients, the only FDA approved 3D mammography. 3D mammography allows providers to examine breast tissue layer by layer. It detects 41% more invasive breast cancers and reduces false positives up to 40%. The newest advancement in breast imaging is our Hitachi Sofia 3-D Breast Ultrasound system that provides us with the resources to detect breast cancer at an early stage in women who have dense breast tissue. While it will not replace a mammogram, using in conjunction with a mammogram, it will significantly increase the changes of an accurate diagnosis of breast cancer. In October of 2003, Southern OB/GYN opened its single-specialty outpatient surgery center. The Southern OB/GYN Ambulatory Surgery Center is located adjacent to the Southern OB/GYN office, and our patients find it both personal and convenient. SOBGYN physicians perform a range of procedures in our ASC, including Hysteroscopy, Laparoscopy, D&C, Tubal Litigation, Laser Ablation, Biopsy, Uterine Suspension, and NovaSure Endometrial Ablation. Southern OB/GYN has affiliations with a number of organizations to help improve the quality and accessibility of care for our patients. Through our collaboration with the Florida Institute for Reproductive Medicine, patients have local access to the largest provider of infertility care in the North Florida/South Georgia area. Southern OB/GYN has also partnered with a maternal fetal medicine specialist group to provide our patients with local access to maternal fetal ultrasounds and consults for high risk pregnancies via telemedicine technology.
