A visit from Simone is a great day. 🐾

Simone is a specially trained facility dog at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital who works alongside her handler, Child Life Specialist Marci, to bring a smile to kids' faces during their most difficult moments.

Simone is proof that comfort can come on four paws. Tail wags all around.

A story of hope, resilience and the power of compassion. 💙

This week, Maria Fareri Children's Hospital reunited with Melanie, a former NICU patient whose journey has touched hearts across the region.

After being rescued by Yonkers Police Department officers in February 2024, Melanie was transported to our NICU, where she received expert care from our Division of Newborn Medicine and NICU team.

Now a happy, thriving toddler, Melanie returned with her adoptive family to meet and thank the first responders, police officers and healthcare professionals who played a role in saving her life.

For the staff who cared for her in those earliest days, seeing Melanie grow and flourish was an unforgettable reminder of why they do what they do every day.

✨❄️ It was a magical day at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital! ❄️✨

In collaboration with Compass Healthcare, the hospital hosted Frozen Day, delighting patients and families with visits from Anna, Elsa, Sven and Olaf.

A specially decorated Frozen-themed cart also made bedside visits, bringing ice pops, coloring pages and crayons to patients who couldn't attend the festivities.

These events have brightened days and created lasting smiles over the past several months, helping enhance the experience for patients, families and staff alike.

WMCHealth’s own Dr. Steven M Wolf MD, Chief of Pediatric Neurology at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and Patricia McGoldrick NP, MPA, Director of the Tuberous Sclerosis program at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital recently connected with healthcare teams across Australia, delivering 12 lectures at seven children’s hospitals and reaching more than 250 clinicians.

His presentations focused on innovative epilepsy care, including advanced neuromodulation therapies, the role of nurse practitioners in comprehensive epilepsy programs, and tools that help identify children with complex epilepsy syndromes.

By sharing research, clinical expertise, and lessons learned from five WMCHealth publications, Dr. Wolf helped strengthen international collaboration aimed at improving outcomes for children with neurological disorders around the world.

✨ Music, courage and community took center stage at this year's Ladybug Idol Talent Showcase.

Hosted by our Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy team and coordinated by music therapist Laurie Park, this inspiring event brought together current and former pediatric patients, families, caregivers and staff for an unforgettable celebration of talent and resilience. Among our fantastic judges included Tony-award winning actress Ali Stroker who helped celebrate our talented singers!

From powerful performances to joyful moments of connection, participants had the opportunity to build confidence, express themselves and share their unique gifts with a supportive audience. Events like Ladybug Idol remind us that healing goes beyond medicine, and that every child deserves a chance to shine. ✨

We're bringing our hospitals together to better serve our patients.

WMCHealth is unifying most of our hospitals under a single hospital license to create a more connected health system. This integration will help our care teams share information more easily, coordinate care faster, and better support patients across our network.

This week, a Brazilian fan organization, Torcedores da Alegria ("Fans of Happiness") which is known for visiting children’s hospitals during major tournaments, spent time with our patients, bringing smiles, laughter, and a little bit of soccer spirit to those who need it most.

From playful moments to meaningful connections, these visits remind us that healing isn’t just about medicine. It’s about joy, comfort, and human connection.
