Taking a page from ABC, let's refer to seniors as "The Goldens". It is such a lovely word to express how precious they are to all of us.

When we visit our Golden Mom or Grandma this weekend, what can we do to treat them like gold? Flowers and candy are nice, but how about helping them out as they age.

Here's some gift ideas:

1) Make their home safer with grab bars, better lighting, handrails, ramps, and anything else to prevent falls.
2) See if they need assistance with mobility, housework, finances, or transportation to appointments and events.
3) Are they lonely? Can you help them find activities where they can meet people or visit them more often?

If you see a decline in their health and well-being, have you considered hiring a professional home health aide to come in some days of the week to help them, provide companionship, and keep them safe?

April 11th is World Parkinson's Day.

As experts in home care services, SARA is often asked by clients' with loved ones who have Parkinson's Disease, if they are going to develop dementia.

According to John Hopkins only 50% to 80% of Parkinson's Disease patients develop dementia and it is usually in the later stages of the disease.

"Parkinson's is caused by a loss of nerve cells that produce dopamine, affecting movement. As the disease spreads to other parts of the brain over time, it can impair cognitive functions like memory, attention, and reasoning, leading to Parkinson's Disease Dementia (PDD)."

Our SARA Certified Home Health Aides are trained to assist clients with their needs at any stage of Parkinson's Disease and Parkinson's Disease Dementia.
