Tori Barton: A Creative Spirit, a Heart That Gave Freely

Victoria Nicole “Tori” Barton, 28, will be remembered for her generous heart, quick wit, and unmistakable spark. An artist who loved reading and writing, Tori expressed herself with imagination and heart. Her Christian faith, love for her family, and devotion to her beloved companion, Milo, were treasured parts of her life. Both playful and tenderhearted, she had a gift for making others laugh and feel cared for.

Featuring Pastor Rusty Letson
A Life of Faith, Family, and Service to Others

Some individuals make a lasting difference in their communities through quiet acts of kindness, unwavering faith, and a lifelong commitment to serving others. Pastor Rusty Letson is one of those individuals.

Following five years of service in the United States Navy and five years of formal education, Pastor Letson answered what he describes as God's calling to the ministry in 1992. Over the past three decades, he has faithfully served the congregations of Johnson Chapel and Happy Valley Baptist Church and currently serves as pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Fredonia, Alabama.

When reflecting on his years in ministry, Pastor Letson considers Revival 2004 among his most meaningful accomplishments. Equally rewarding has been watching young people he once taught and mentored grow into ministers themselves, continuing the work of sharing God's Word and serving their communities.

For the Letson family, ministry has always been a shared calling. His wife, Beverly, has faithfully led women's groups, while their children have been involved in youth ministries. Now enjoying a somewhat slower pace as a semi-retired pastor, Rusty especially treasures spending time with his grandchildren.

When asked about his favorite Bible verse, Pastor Letson shared John 17:17 (KJV):

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

For him, its meaning is simple yet profound: God's Word is true. That belief has remained the foundation of his ministry and the guidance he offers others.

Throughout his career, Pastor Letson has stood beside countless families during times of tragedy, grief, and loss. His message to those facing life's most difficult moments is to never lose hope, but to continue trusting in the Lord and His plan.

His ministry also extends beyond the church. As a valued member of the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Homes staff, Pastor Letson continues to offer compassion, reassurance, and a caring presence to the families we are privileged to serve.

When asked what advice he would offer to those entering the ministry, his response reflected the principles that have guided his own life: Develop a strong life of prayer, put the Lord first, and faithfully serve your church and its members.

Ronald “Ronnie” Williams, age 77, of Valley, Alabama, passed away on October 21, 2026, leaving behind a cherished legacy of courage, unwavering faith, and enduring love. A decorated Vietnam War veteran and Purple Heart recipient, Ronnie served his country with honor and devoted his life to his beloved wife of 57 years, Jo Ann, and the family they built together. His quiet strength, wisdom, and generous spirit will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.

“What Would I Ask If I Were in Your Shoes When Selecting a Funeral Home?"

I would begin with the people:

Do I know them, and can I trust them with someone I love? I would ask who will provide the care, what the arrangements include, and whether the costs are explained clearly.

I would look for an established firm whose heritage is woven into my family’s story, with a history of integrity, transparency, community involvement, and promises kept. Trust grows through generations of doing the right thing.

Lovingly known as MiMi, Aunt Deb, and Deb, Deborah Annette Stewart, 72, passed away on October 20, 2026, in Valley, Alabama. Deborah gave generously of herself through a listening ear, a comforting prayer, or a welcoming conversation on her front porch. From caring for family to tending the cats she loved, her kindness shone through life’s simplest moments.

🏆 Hometown Legends: West Point’s Dot Kirby

Born in West Point, Georgia, in 1920, Mary Dorothy “Dot” Kirby earned her place in golf history—winning the 1951 U.S. Women’s Amateur, capturing consecutive Titleholders championships in 1941 and 1942, and representing the United States on four Curtis Cup teams. Her distinguished career brought induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1974 and the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame in 1989.

Our community’s history is part of our own.Established in 1900, Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Homes was already serving local families as Dot’s remarkable story unfolded. Today, we are proud to celebrate the people whose accomplishments enrich our shared heritage.

Every Life Leaves a Story.

A familiar smile. A favorite saying. Small acts of kindness that remain with us for years.

We join the Newman family in remembering Harry “Bubba” Edward Newman, 74, of Lafayette, Alabama. A devoted father, faithful Christian, Army National Guard veteran, and lifelong outdoorsman. Bubba considered the adoption of his son, Justin, his greatest achievement in life. His humility, love, and guiding faith will be cherished by those who knew him.
