A viewing is typically a quiet time to pay respects in person, while a visitation is often a more open opportunity for family and friends to gather and offer support.
Both are meaningful in their own way.

On June 14,2026, our son, brother, daddy, comfort space (Harley), cousin, nephew, grandson, and friend to many gained his Heavenly wings.

Christian Myles Sturkie, born February 27,2003 at 11:55 am was greeted in Heaven by his Pawpaw Wayne Sturkie, maternal grandparents, John R. and Paula Wortham and granny Rhonda Jordan. He was finally able to hold Brett ’Lee’s two siblings that were kept in God’s care.

Christian was a 2021 graduate of Valley High School. He was also a member of Emmanuel Missionary Deaf Church.

Christian was a jack of all trades; he worked as a tire l**e technician and he worked in construction.

Christian was an avid outdoorsman. From an early age he was always happier outside. From treasures of bass in the tub, to squirrels and snakes on the bathroom sink. He was at peace when he was hunting and/or fishing. Everything was better in the woods or on the river. Throughout high school, Christian was a member of Valley Bass Team.

Of all the things in his life, Christian was very proud of being Mikey’s brother. His biggest blessing was being Brett ’Lee’s dad.

Christian is survived by his parents, Shanon and Sonya Sturkie, his brother, Robert (Mikey) Sturkie and his sister Kierra Trammell, his son Brett’Lee Sturkie and Brett ’Lee’s mother Harley Douglass, and several cousins, and friends. He is gone but never forgotten.

Betty Jean Johnson Parrish, 92, of Pine Mountain, GA, passed in the loving presence of family after a long battle with dementia at Wellmore Memory Care Center in Daniel Island, SC. She was born in Camp Hill, Tallapoosa County, AL on April 2, 1934, to the Late Thomas Enoch Johnson and Mary Lou Phillipps Johnson. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, and husband of 66 years, Maxie Lawrence (Larry) Parrish, and her siblings, Ethel Baker, O'Neil Johnson, Paul Johnson, Sherman Johnson, Kate Walters, Phillip Johnson, and Ruth Johnson.

She is survived by her daughter, LaBet Parrish Perry and Son-in-Law, Thomas Dudley Perry of Summerville, SC, and her grandchildren, Matthew Thomas Perry, his wife, Kelly Luciano Perry, of South Carolina, and granddaughter SaraBeth Perry Douglas, her husband Richard Blake Douglas, and her great-grandchildren, Richard Mason Douglas, Maddox Rucker Douglas, and AmeliaRae Louise Douglas of Pine Mountain, Georgia.

Betty attended school in Valley, AL, where she was a member of the girls softball team along with her sister Ruth. After graduation she worked in the Mills in Valley, AL and was a Church secretary. She later graduated from business school. After marrying and moving to the Atlanta area, she worked as an administrative assistant for then start-up, Eastern Airlines, and was honored to participate in an inaugural flight of the airline.

Susan Darlene Hill Wood, known lovingly as Susan, passed away on June 15, 2026, at her residence in Valley, Alabama, at the age of 77.

She was born on September 10, 1948, in Langdale, Alabama, and grew up in Riverview, Alabama, where she built the foundation of a life marked by faith, devotion, and quiet strength. Susan lived her life as a Christian and carried herself with a spirit that was loving, thoughtful, and kind.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Janice and John “Bud” Hill; her husband of 50 years and the love of her life, Albert “Jack” Wood, Jr.; and her siblings, Joel, David, Carolyn, Jenny, Debbie, Tammy, and Johnny. She treasured her family deeply and held close the memories of those who went before her. Her life was shaped by strong family ties, and she remained connected to those bonds throughout her years.

She is survived by her sons, Chris Wood and his wife Ashley, Timothy Wood and his wife Amandah, and Steven Wood and his wife Jennifer. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Hunter Wood and Sydnie, CJ Wood, Jenna Wood and Cody McConnell, Dani Wood, Jonathan Parker, Dorman Pritchett, Lillie Wood, Layla Pritchett, and Jackson Wood, as well as her great-grandchildren, Beau and Blaire Wood. Susan is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and long-time friendships that were a source of joy and comfort throughout her life.

Susan worked in the insurance field at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital and at Lanier Nursing Home, where she was known for her dependability and kind manner. She and Jack also built a business together selling Townecraft Cookware for a little over 15 years, a venture that reflected their partnership and shared determination. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Lanett, Alabama, and valued the fellowship and service that came with that association.

In her younger years, Susan enjoyed playing co-ed softball with her sisters Jenny and Debbie, creating memories filled with laughter and friendly competition. She and Jack also spent many years traveling across much of the United States on a motorcycle, camping along the way and enjoying the simple peace of the open road. Later in life, she found happiness in spending time with her children and grandchildren, researching family trees, crocheting, reading books, and watching Hallmark movies. These pastimes reflected the gentle and thoughtful way she approached life.

Susan Darlene Hill Wood will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the kindness she extended to others, and the devotion she showed to her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and in the many cherished memories she leaves behind.

Funeral services for Susan will be held on Thursday, June 18th, 2026, at 11:00 AM (EDT) at the graveside in Randolph Memory Gardens in Roanoke, Alabama. Pastor Kevin Anglin will officiate. Susan’s family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

Juanita Lorene Leamon, known lovingly as Juanita, passed away on June 17, 2026, in Valley, Alabama, at the age of 92.

She was born on January 28, 1934, in Valley, Alabama, and lived a long life marked by kindness, warmth, and a gentle spirit that touched those around her. Juanita was a loving and kind woman whose presence brought comfort and familiarity to family and friends alike. She carried herself with grace and quiet strength, and she will be remembered for the steady goodness she shared throughout her life.

Juanita devoted many years of her working life to her career and retired from the Jacksonville Chambers of Commerce at the age of 65. Her dedication and dependable nature were evident in all she did, and she took pride in her work and the relationships she built along the way. She was respected for her commitment and appreciated for the thoughtful way she interacted with others.

Outside of work, Juanita enjoyed a life filled with simple pleasures and memorable experiences. She loved to buy and sell items at the local flea markets, where she found joy in the search for special treasures and the excitement of a good find. She also loved traveling and going on cruises, embracing the opportunity to see new places and make lasting memories. These interests reflected her lively spirit and her appreciation for the beauty and adventure life had to offer.

On June 15, 2026 the world lost a bright light. Melba Rodgers a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and cherished friend, has passed away at the age of 78.

Born on September 11, 1947 in Langdale, Alabama to the late Charlie “Red” McCormick and Roma Lee McCormick.

Mrs. Rodgers is survived by her daughter Wendy Sides (Michael); 3 grandchildren: Lacis Roberson-Brown (Skye), Jake Sides (Ryanne), Morgan Johnston (Dustin); 4 great grandchildren: Stetson Sides, Lorelai Sides, Sawyer Johnston, and baby Sides due this December; sister-in-law Betty Glass; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Rodgers; sister Brenda Bleskoski; brother Brian McCormick; 2 sisters-in-law and 3 brothers-in-law.

A true matriarch at heart Melba was a woman of immense strength, grace, and compassion. She could light up a room with her laughter and calm a storm with her hug. Mrs. Rodgers was a hardworking lady who was still showing up every morning as she was the owner and operator of Circle “B” Mobile Home Park for over 35 years.

She loved her family and friends very much and was known as the “sunshine” of her family. She had a heart of gold and was a hugger to all that she met but more than anything she was a faithful servant of the Lord.

Friends, family and all those whose lives were touched by Mrs. Melba are invited to celebrate her life and say a final goodbye on June 18th with a visitation beginning at 2:00pm (CDT) and a service following at 3:00pm (CDT), at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Garden Hills Cemetery. Rev. Lynn McClain will officiate.
