Senate Bill 1567 officially became law this week. This legislation was written to provide explicit legislative intent and clarification related to the implementation of HB 2298, which was passed in 2025. SB 1567 provides additional direction to the Oklahoma Board of Nursing regarding the APRN transition-to-practice pathway and implementation of independent prescribing practices in Oklahoma.
The bill passed overwhelmingly in both chambers of the legislature and was sent to the governor’s office last week. While the governor did not sign the bill, it has now become law through the constitutional process and will take effect Nov. 1, 2026.

We are incredibly proud to have completed this important step for Oklahoma APRNs. This legislation represents years of advocacy, collaboration, education, and persistence by AONP members, legislative champions, and stakeholders across the state. Oklahoma APRNs continue moving forward toward a stronger, more standardized practice environment that improves access to care for patients and communities across Oklahoma.
