There are parts of this job that people see... and parts they never will.
As the owner of this care home, I'm also an RN and a caregiver. I don't just manage a business, I care for people. Because our home is small, we have the privilege of spending real one-on-one time with each resident. We learn their stories, their routines, what makes them laugh, and what brings them comfort. We get to know their families, too.
You'll often see us sharing the happy moments such as the birthdays, the games, the activities, and the smiles. Those moments are real, and they're worth celebrating.
What you won't see are the difficult days.
You won't see the tears, the confusion, the fear, the sleepless nights, or the quiet moments when someone is declining. Not because those moments don't matter, but because our residents deserve to be remembered with dignity and respected during their most vulnerable times.
This role is beautiful, but it's also incredibly heavy. Loving people means opening your heart, knowing that one day you'll have to say goodbye. It means comforting families through impossible decisions while quietly carrying your own emotions.
People sometimes say, "I don't know how you do it." The truth is, some days I don't know either.
But then a resident smiles because they recognize me. A family hugs me and says, "Thank you for loving my Dad." A hand reaches for mine because they know they're safe. And I remember exactly why I chose this calling.
To every caregiver who shows up every day with compassion, patience, and love, even when your heart is breaking… I see you!
This isn't just a profession. It's a privilege. And while it can be one of the hardest roles to carry, it's also one of the greatest honors of my life. Thank you all for trusting myself and our care team to care for your loved ones 🫶🏼
