Underdog Performance Therapy UD-P Therapy
now offering massage, red-light, tape, farrier services. more coming soon
Educational content My name is Heather Herring, owner of UD-P Therapy.

I first got involved in horses back in 2019 when I met a little cart horse morgan and began barrel racing. I became dedicating to educating and training for the next few years purchasing rescues and even doing some resales. That is, until meeting my main horse. He wasn't just a typical retraining and building calories, he had a severe muscle issue making him unrideable which stemmed from a dental

problem. That is how I got introduced to massage therapy, and decided to learn how to do it myself to best help him. My business started from listening to my horse, and now I dedicate my career to listening to every horse. I have continued my education the best I can, dedicating myself to other certifications including my BWFA farrier certification. It is my number 1 priority to improve your horses health, so please PM to schedule.

Therapist Thoughts...

It's pretty common for the vets I work with to inject the bursa sack at the shoulder joint. I'm not anti-injection by any means... Especially for performance horses. Plus there are a lot of options out there that aren't traditional steroids.

In most cases of inflammation at the shoulder joint, I've found unbalanced hooves. Most times when you get the horse balanced, the need to keep injecting decreases or stops completely.

The only times I've seen a shoulder joint be a primary problem is in cases involving trauma like hitting a pipe fence, a fall, getting kicked, ECT.

But landing during performance on unlevel, underrun or clubbed feet will definitely cause a chain reaction that moves up the body... All the way through the back.

It's important to have your vet X-ray to verify what we see as therapists. Then you can work with your team of professionals to create the best solution for your horse.

My perspective when working with veterinarians is to work backwards from their diagnosis through the biomechanics of movement to correct root weakness that spiraled into the need for injections. When we untangle patterns of compensation then we can move forward towards results.
