A stiff knee after surgery isn’t always just “scar tissue.” If your knee isn’t bending or straightening as it should, there may be more going on. The cause could involve scar tissue, a mechanical problem, implant positioning, biology, or even rehabilitation.

That’s why treating a stiff knee isn’t simply about removing scar tissue. The goal is to understand why you lost motion, restore function, and help maintain the motion you regain.

If you’re dealing with stiffness after knee replacement, learn more about arthrofibrosis and your treatment options 👇

Arthrofibrosis surgery has a unique approach for each patient depending on the cause of excessive scar tissue and the extent of scarring.

Had a Bankart repair or capsulolabral reconstruction? Recovery takes time—and each phase has a purpose.

First 6 weeks: Protect the repair in a sling while the labrum heals.

Following weeks: Physical therapy gradually works toward restoring full motion and strength.

Around 4–5 months: Many patients can begin returning to overhead sports.

Around 6 months: Contact and collision athletes may be ready to return to play.

Your timeline will depend on your surgery, healing and progress.

An arthroscopic capsulolabral reconstruction often called a Bankart repair, is one of the most common procedures used to treat ongoing shoulder instability.

When it comes to shoulder pain, the area that hurts isn't always the true source of the problem.

The long head of the biceps tendon plays an important role in shoulder function, but when it becomes irritated, torn, or unstable, it can sometimes signal a bigger issue happening inside the shoulder.

The goal of treatment isn't just to repair a damaged tendon. It's to understand the entire picture, what caused the problem, what other structures may be involved, and what approach gives you the best chance for lasting recovery.

Great shoulder care starts with finding the reason behind the pain, not just treating the symptom. Learn more ⬇️

A biceps tendon tear can dislocate without tearing out of its groove. The most common symptom is severe, sudden pain at the injured area.

“Will my patellar tendonitis go away on its own?”

For many patients, the answer starts with the right combination of rest, physical therapy, and progressive strengthening. But when tendon pain persists despite treatment, additional options may be considered.

Every knee is different. Treatment decisions depend on factors like tendon damage, activity level, and recovery goals.

A personalized approach is key to returning to pain-free movement.

Patellar tendonitis, referred to as jumper’s knee, is an overuse injury that causes pain at the front and bottom of the kneecap.

A meniscus tear isn't the same for everyone, so treatment shouldn't be either.

When surgery is needed, the goal is more than relieving pain. Whenever possible, preserving the meniscus helps protect the knee, improve function, and support long-term joint health. Every treatment plan is tailored to the patient's injury, lifestyle, and goals to achieve the best possible outcome.

Learn more about meniscus injuries and treatment options ⬇️

The recommended meniscus surgery is based on the location and pattern of the tear. A meniscectomy is performed if the tear is located in the white zone.

Why do some shoulders keep dislocating?

Repeated instability can cause bone loss in the shoulder socket, making it harder for the joint to stay in place. When this happens, simply repairing damaged tissue may not be enough.

Advanced procedures like glenoid augmentation and the Latarjet procedure are designed to restore shoulder stability by addressing the underlying bone loss.

A stable shoulder starts with rebuilding the foundation.Learn more 👇

Patients who have glenoid bone loss associated with ongoing shoulder instability may be ideal candidates for arthroscopic glenoid augmentation.

A "blown out knee" is a serious injury that often involves damage to multiple knee ligaments and requires immediate medical attention.

Common signs include severe pain, rapid swelling, and an inability to bear weight on the injured leg. If you experience these symptoms, especially after a fall, collision, or sports injury, don't wait to seek care.

Prompt evaluation, including X-rays and an MRI, helps determine the extent of the injury and guides the most effective treatment plan. Early diagnosis is critical to protecting your knee and optimizing recovery. https://lasportsorthomd.com/knee-ligament-injuries-blown-out-dislocated-knee-van-nuys-thousand-oaks-ca/
