May is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) & Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder Awareness Month ππ¦
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome affects connective tissue throughout the body and can impact both children and adults in many different ways, including joint instability, chronic pain, fatigue, delayed motor development, poor coordination, frequent injuries, and difficulty with daily activities.
Physical therapy plays an important role in helping individuals with EDS improve strength, stability, balance, endurance, posture, and overall function while helping reduce pain and protect joints. For children, PT can also support gross motor development, coordination, and confidence with movement skills. For adults, therapy often focuses on improving quality of life, activity tolerance, and safe movement strategies.
Research continues to support the benefits of individualized exercise and stabilization programs for people with hypermobility and EDS. One study published in the journal Disability and Rehabilitation found that targeted strengthening and proprioceptive exercises can help improve joint stability and decrease pain in individuals with hypermobility disorders.
At Jones Physical Therapy and JPT Kids, weβre proud to support both pediatric and adult patients with personalized care designed to help them move safer, grow stronger, and stay active. π
