SUPER excited to announce that I am now a preferred provider with Kaiser Permanente!🤸 I am able to get "spot contracts" with Kaiser on a case-by-case basis. A referral from your child's primary care provider is required and all services are subject to prior authorization. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions! Yay!

Happy birthday to Blue Jay Speech! It’s been one year since I embarked on this amazing adventure. I am so blessed to work with the most incredible families. Every day is filled with so much joy and celebration. Thank you to all my friends, family, and clients for your support. Here’s to many, many more years to come!

I’ve been working on articulating my values as a clinician and my vision for Blue Jay Speech. But somebody already went and did it for me. Ever since I became a speech therapist (10 years ago next week!), I have aspired to be THIS kind of therapist. Special thanks to Play Spark for creating these powerful words.

I will always choose option #3. It never ceases to amaze me how strategies to aid communication for children who cannot speak yet (like a high-tech voice output AAC device or communication book) support verbal speech development. We don’t have to choose one or the other. And choosing one does not mean we are giving up on the other. Both are incredibly worthwhile goals. When children CAN speak, they WILL. And while they are learning to speak, let’s give them a way to share their voice with the world. 💙

Ok, so I know it’s not exactly the same, but just think about it. If you were suddenly unable to speak, would you want to wait things out without specialist support or for your family to not accept any other methods of communication (like writing!) or would you want to work on being able to communicate in any manner RIGHT NOW? Kids want the same- they want to be able to communicate their wants, needs, thoughts, etc and they don’t want to wait it out. Having an avenue for communication (be it with signs, pictures, high tech devices) allows for increased connection and decreased frustration. AND use of these alternative forms of communication actually supports an increase in VERBAL communication. So it’s a win-win for all- but especially for the child! ❤️
