Let’s Make Salsa with Landon!

Things got a little spicy in our Cooking Class! Landon showed us how to whip up a batch of fresh, homemade salsa from scratch. Residents helped chop, mix, taste, and—of course—enjoy the finished product with plenty of chips. Nothing beats fresh salsa, good food, and even better company! One of our staff, Daniel got to taste test the jalapeños and he survived to tell the tale!

RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT

Born in Massachusetts in 1950, Dan moved with his family to Alaska at age 11. At 17, he left for Seattle to attend college and later began working for Alaska Airlines.

After working several ground positions, Dan became a flight attendant in 1975. His career took him throughout Alaska, Mexico, the East Coast and the Hawaiian Islands.

Dan retired after an incredible 40 years with Alaska Airlines, a career he truly loved. He treasures the wonderful people, travels and memories he made along the way.

Our gentlemen headed out this morning for a delicious breakfast at Elmer’s! Good food, hot coffee, and even better conversation made for a great way to start the day.

What an incredible day at OMSI! 🚢 We had the opportunity to experience the Titanic exhibition and step back in time to learn more about the passengers, crew, and stories surrounding this unforgettable piece of history. It was fascinating, moving, and definitely a trip we’ll be talking about for a while.

Another wonderful Bridgewood adventure in the books!

🍹🧠 Tipsy Trivia! 🧠🍹

The questions were definitely challenging this round, but that didn’t stop the fun! We enjoyed great food, tasty drinks, plenty of teamwork, and a little friendly competition.

🏆 Congratulations to the Knotheads, who put their thinking caps on and came out with the win! Way to go, team!

August Resident Spotlight

Ellie grew up on the East Side of Manhattan in New York City. Her mother put her into a ballet class at a young age, and studying ballet was just the beginning of her long and active lifestyle.

She was married to an officer in the Marines, his career taking their family from Manhattan to sunny California where they raised their four children. Ellie began playing soccer when her kids were in grade school and remained on the same winning team for 7 years. When her children were grown, she started and ran a very successful condominium management company.

Ellie’s love for adventure began when she was in her 30’s and had joined the Sierra Club where she met lifelong friends with whom she shared many weekend adventures which included hiking, backpacking, cross country skiing, and cycling. Spanning several western states, she logged in hundreds of miles in the mountains, conquering elevations as high as 12, 000 feet.

Cycling became a favorite, and she credits her cycling enthusiasm to her four kids. Whereas parents usually teach their kids how to ride a bike, it was her children who taught her. Her first ride was to the end of a nearby cul-de-sac and from there “she never looked back.” Cycling as many as 70-100 miles in one day with her fellow cycling enthusiasts.

Ellie moved up to Vancouver to be closer to her daughter Cecelia and has been a part of Bridgewood’s family for over 4 years. She is typically seen speed walking around our building and on our Hotfooter outings, pedaling in our gym, and participating in numerous fitness classes here.
