Byron Roselli thought he knew what recovery from major surgery would look like. After six heart attacks, seven stent procedures and quintuple bypass surgery, he knew how long the road back could be.
But when he needed surgery for cancer in both lungs, his experience was different. Thanks to minimally invasive robotic surgery at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, Byron was home within days and back to doing what he loves: spending time with his family and getting out on the golf course with his sons.
Thoracic surgeon Dr. Svetlana Kotova used the da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system to remove the cancer from both lungs. The technology, made possible by a $3 million investment supported by generous donors, is helping bring advanced surgical care closer to home.
For Byron, the impact comes down to something simple: more time with the people he loves.
“I had surgery to continue on with the people that mean so much to me,” he said. “Thank you to the medical team for giving me more rounds to play and more sunsets to see with my family.”
