Stop asking students to relax
in a Śavāsana their body
is still working to hold.

If a student’s head is hanging back, their shoulders are pulling, their low back is arching, or their ankles don’t feel grounded, their body is still managing the pose.

Telling them to “let go” won’t fix a setup problem.

No prop can guarantee relaxation. But intelligent support can remove unnecessary effort and make settling more possible.
In this setup:

👉 A firm 45-degree ramp supports the torso without requiring the student to lie completely flat.
👉 A blanket hammock fills the space behind the head and neck.
👉 A bolster beneath the knees reduces the demand on the low back.
👉 Cushions beneath the forearms prevent the shoulders from hanging toward the floor.
👉 A rolled blanket beneath the ankles adds another layer of contact and comfort.

The point isn’t actually maximum props. It’s maximum purpose.

Every prop should have a job. Every setup should respond to the body in front of you.

That’s how slower classes gain depth and how students feel the difference between being placed in a pose and being skillfully supported in it.

Save this setup for your next Yin or Restorative class.

Utah is absolutely cooked right now. 🔥

But heat can also feel like restlessness, irritability, poor sleep, a flushed face, or complete overstimulation.

That’s why I wouldn’t necessarily open a summer Yin class with a pose.

I’d start by giving that heat somewhere to go.

This quick tapping practice moves from the head, down the neck, and out through the arms. The downward direction is intentional: we’re dispersing energy rather than building more of it.

Save this now so you have it for your next class. ☀️

Here’s where to tap:

→ Beneath the eyes ST2, Stomach
→ Above the upper lip GV26, Governing Vessel
→ At the chin CV24, Conception Vessel
→ Over the jaw muscles ST6, Stomach
→ At the temples Tàiyáng, an extra point
→ Across the eyebrows BL2, Bladder; Yúyāo, an extra point; and SJ23, Triple Burner
→ Circle the hairline GV24, Governing Vessel; GB15, Gallbladder; and ST8, Stomach

Then sweep your fingers through the scalp and brush down the neck.

Next pat down the outer arm along the Large Intestine meridian. This passes LI11 at the elbow which is one of the primary heat-clearing points in Chinese Medicine. Finish at LI1 on the index finger with a gentle pull.

Use this during the hottest days of summer or anytime things feeling hot, restless, irritable, or cooked.

Follow along for intelligent Yin practices where every offering has a purpose.

**This energetic practice doesn’t replace water, shade, physical cooling, or medical care for heat illness**

Acupressure sticks optional! Use your fingers for the same benefit.

If you want to amplify the meridian focus so it feels more specific instead of vaguely energetic, try these acupoints in your next yin class:

🦋Tàichōng (LIV-3) with Butterfly
🐛Zǎnzhú (BL-2) with Caterpillar
🖤 Zúsānlǐ (ST-36) with Half Saddle

Massage the acupoint for about a minute of your total Yin hold. The posture creates the time and access. The acupoint brings a more precise Traditional Chinese Medicine focus and gives the student a tangible place to direct their attention.

It’s not about claiming one acupressure point treats a condition or turns a pose into medicine. Nope, nope.

It’s about understanding the relevant Chinese Medicine theories of well-being that are at the root and heart of Yin Yoga. 🖤🤍

Inside my 50-Hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training, we study acupoints, meridians, the Five Elements, Yin and Yang Organs + how to combine them so classes feel rich, not crowded.

If you want to teach Yin with this level of specificity, comment “ACUPOINT” and I’ll send you the details of my next Yin YTT.
