NAMI Southwest Washington

NAMI Southwest Washington NAMI Southwest Washington is dedicated to all people affected by mental illness through education Each state also has a state organization.

We are dedicated to helping all individuals and families struggling with mental health challenges through education, support, advocacy, and awareness. We provide unique mental health services that otherwise are unavailable or inaccessible for many individuals and families. All of our services are offered at no charge and are confidential. NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the large

st grassroots mental health organization in the nation, headquartered in Virginia. Communities or counties within the states have affiliate organizations. Many affiliates work under their own independent non-profit charter. NAMI SW WA was first chartered in the late 1970's. We Believe That:
• People can learn to manage their mental health diagnosis and can and will take responsibility for their recovery
• People with a mental health diagnosis are entitled to live the highest quality of life possible, in their own communities of choice
• Family and social support are essential for recovery
• Family members can learn how to cope and determine
how best to take care of themselves

NAMI advocates for access to mental health services, treatment, and support; we are steadfast in commitment to raising awareness and building a supportive community for individuals and they families who are affected by mental illness.

Today is International Day of Charity, a day that celebrates the many ways people can make a difference through generosity, volunteering, and community action.

At NAMI Southwest Washington, we see what happens when people choose to show up for one another. A donation can help support programs and resources. A volunteer can offer their time and talents. A caring community can help someone feel less alone during a difficult season.

Charity isn’t only about giving money. It can also mean giving your time, sharing your skills, raising awareness, or simply finding a meaningful way to support the people and organizations working to make your community stronger.

Today, we’re especially grateful for everyone who supports our mission and helps us continue creating spaces for education, connection, hope, and understanding around mental health. Every act of generosity matters.

When you're struggling with your mental health, it can sometimes feel like the struggle takes up all the space.

Depression can make it difficult to remember the parts of yourself that once felt joyful. Anxiety can make worries seem bigger than everything else. A difficult season can make it hard to imagine life beyond what you're experiencing right now.

Your mental health is part of your story, but it is not the entirety of who you are.

You are still a person with interests, relationships, memories, hopes, humor, strengths, quirks, and possibilities that exist alongside the hard things.

On the days when it's difficult to remember that, let someone else help remind you.

You are more than a diagnosis. More than a difficult day. More than this particular chapter. 💙

September is here, and sometimes the beginning of a new month is a good reminder to check in with yourself.

Not to judge how productive you've been. Not to make a list of everything you should be doing differently. Just to notice.

How have you been feeling lately? What has been taking up most of your mental energy? Are you getting enough rest? Have you been making time for people and things that help you feel grounded?

We often move from one week to the next without stopping long enough to notice how we're actually doing.

You don't need to have everything figured out. Sometimes simply recognizing, "I've been carrying a lot lately," is an important first step toward giving yourself what you need.

This year’s message is “Changing the Narrative on Su***de,” with a powerful call to action: Start the Conversation.

You don’t have to be a mental health professional to make a difference. Check in with someone who has been quiet lately. Ask how they’re really doing. Listen without judgment. Remind them that they matter and that they don’t have to face a difficult time alone.

The things that helped you through a difficult season in the past may not always be what you need today.

Maybe you once needed lots of time alone, and now connection feels more helpful. Maybe keeping busy used to get you through hard days, but lately your mind is asking for more rest. Perhaps you've discovered new boundaries, routines, or ways of managing stress that work better for the person you are now.

That's okay.

Taking care of our mental health isn't about finding one perfect set of coping skills and using them forever. It's about continuing to learn what helps us feel supported, grounded, and able to move through life's challenges.

Give yourself permission to update your mental wellness toolbox. Growth can mean discovering a new way forward.
