A pretty special milestone this weekend: our owner Mattie qualified for the 2028 Olympic Marathon Trials.

While this achievement happened on race day, it was built through years of showing up consistently—something we talk about often at Transforming Physical Therapy & Wellness.

Dr. James believes one of the most common causes of exercise related injuries and irritation is the absence of a good warm up. In order to get the most benefit out of your workout routine, your body needs to be warm and prepared to move. Here are some of James’ personal favorites before he gets his workouts in.

Start with 1-2 minutes of mild-moderate intensity cardio. Then move into mobility work for your back, shoulders, and hips.

A good warm up should take 5-10 minutes.

One of Dr. Mattie’s favorite exercises to include in a balanced strengthening program. This exercise makes many of our hip stability muscles (that are often neglected) work. VERY important for everyone, and Mattie makes her running clients do this exercise regularly.
3x/week and adjust the strength of the resistance band to be a moderate challenge. 💪🏼 This is also excellent as part of a warm-up before running.
