To my team — You challenge me. You listen when I need to vent. You keep me sane while simultaneously being my biggest challenge. Leading a team is the hardest job I’ve ever had, but you make it worth it.

Watching you grow has been the best part. The skills, sure. But more than that — the instincts. The judgment. The way you each decide what’s right for a patient in front of you.

She asked me about her profile. My answer was her chin.

Chin first, blended into the jawline, with highlights placed at the cheek. Chin projection is the anchor for the entire lower face. When the chin sits back, the jawline reads soft and undefined no matter how good the bone structure underneath actually is, and the whole profile collapses forward.

Watch where the light sits. Before, the brightest point on her face is below her nose, which pulls the eye down and shortens the lower third. After, it lands across the apple of her cheek and the jawline shows up on its own.

Three weeks between these two photos.

This is what I mean when I say I treat the face as a whole and not a list of complaints. Profile balance is one of the highest-impact things we do and almost nobody comes in asking for it by name.

The honest version: a recessed chin is usually skeletal. Jaw position is set by how the face grew, and the real correction for that is orthodontic and surgical, not injectable. That route is still open to you as an adult and for some people it is absolutely the right one, particularly when there is an airway component. It is also expansion, surgery and a year or more of your life. If you have kids in the orthodontic window, ask about airway now, because it is a much smaller ask at twelve than as a grown up. What I did here is the aesthetic answer and not the structural one, but we are both so happy with the result.
