My beloved guardian left his body this morning. Though words rarely encompass grief, I wrote a poem in his final days:
Raymond
Cosmic guardian
Warrior angel
Dressed in a small velvet black suit.
Voice of a siren, singing to the sky, to the water, to the wall.
Vibrating your existence, staking a claim on the space that is your birthright.
Casting spells and calling in the spirits that protect my heart, that tend to the gardens of my soul and my body.
I know I will hear you when the crows caw.
I will feel you as the winds blow and the sun warms my skin.
I will see you in every flower that blooms.
For you are in them and they in you.
You are in me, and I in you.
That is how love works, you know.
When you’ve left your body, mine still gets to ripple with your magic, see through your eyes,
be in awe filled presence of the majesty that your steady presence always knew was there—
The one that I often forgot to see until you called to me:
“Come outside. Roll on the earth. Feel the sun. Remember”
