Let’s talk about melasma!
Melasma is a common skin condition characterized by dark, irregular patches and visible blood vessels on sun-exposed areas like the cheeks, forehead, and upper lip. It’s commonly triggered by hormonal changes like birth control, pregnancy, or menopause. It is chronic and recurrent, meaning it can be very tough to manage.
Melasma treatment can include a variety of methods, including skincare, prescription medications, lasers, chemical peels, microneedling, and more. For this beauty, we opted to use skincare and prescription medication to reduce her pigmentation. NO procedures were performed!
Would you believe this result was achieved in 6 months with just 2 topical creams and 1 daily pill?! Here’s what she used:
-Hydroquinone (HQ): topical cream used twice daily, works to lighten existing pigment and prevent new pigment from forming
-Tretinoin (Retin-A): topical cream used once nightly, works to accelerate skin cell turnover and slough off superficial pigment, also boosts collagen, reduces acne breakouts, and smooths skin texture
-Tranexamic Acid (TXA): daily pill, works to inhibit pigment production and reduce the tiny, abnormal blood vessels associated with melasma
The key to achieving results like these, especially without any procedures, is CONSISTENCY. Think of your skincare as the gym. If you’re not exercising regularly, you won’t stay in shape. Similarly, you won’t see significant results if you’re using your skincare inconsistently or bouncing between skincare regimens.
If you’re ready to commit to a consistent skincare routine and tackle your stubborn pigmentation, schedule a consultation with us! We’d love to help 🫶🏼
