🧠 HOW REGULAR MOVEMENT HELPS YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM

Movement isn’t just good for your muscles and joints—your nervous system benefits too!

Your brain, spinal cord and nerves are constantly working together to control movement, balance, coordination and the way your body responds to the world around you.

Regular physical activity can help support:

🧠 Brain health — movement increases blood flow and supports cognitive function
⚡ Coordination & reaction time — your brain and body practise communicating during movement
🦴 Body awareness — movement provides constant sensory information about your position and surroundings
😌 Stress regulation — physical activity can help your body manage everyday stress
😴 Better sleep — staying active can support healthier sleep patterns and recovery

And it doesn’t have to mean an intense workout. Walking, stretching, strength training, swimming or simply moving more throughout your day all count.

✨ Your body was designed to move—and your nervous system plays a part in every step.

👣 YOUR FEET AFFECT MORE THAN YOUR STEPS

Your feet are the foundation for almost every movement you make. When you stand, walk or exercise, the way your feet interact with the ground can influence movement further up the body.

Think of it as a connected chain:

👣 Feet & ankles provide your base of support
🦵 Knees respond to forces travelling up from the ground
🦴 Hips & pelvis help control and stabilise movement
💪 Spine adapts as your body moves and maintains balance

This doesn’t mean every back, hip or knee problem starts with your feet—but changes in foot mechanics, mobility or stability can influence how the rest of your body moves.

Simple habits like wearing appropriate footwear, staying active, maintaining ankle mobility and strengthening your feet and legs can all help support comfortable movement.

✨ Your body is connected from the ground up—so don't forget about your foundation!

🦴 WHAT DOES HEALTHY JOINT MOVEMENT LOOK LIKE?

Healthy joints do a lot of work behind the scenes. From walking and bending to reaching and exercising, they help your body move comfortably and efficiently throughout the day.

When a joint is functioning well, movement is typically:

🔹 Smooth — joint surfaces glide as you move
🔹 Stable — muscles, ligaments and other structures help support and control the joint
🔹 Flexible — you can move comfortably through your available range of motion
🔹 Comfortable — everyday movements don't consistently cause pain or discomfort

But joint health isn't just about flexibility. Strength, mobility, coordination and regular movement all play a role.

🚶 Walking, strength training, stretching and simply avoiding long periods of inactivity can all help support healthy joint function.

If a joint becomes persistently painful, swollen, stiff, unstable or increasingly difficult to move, it may be worth having it assessed.

✨ Keep moving today to support the way you want to move tomorrow.

Small movements can make a big difference in your baby’s development. 👶🌿

From those first little kicks and stretches to tummy time, reaching, rolling and eventually crawling, every movement gives your baby an opportunity to explore their body and the world around them. 🤍

Regular, age-appropriate movement can help support:

✨ Neck and core strength
✨ Balance and coordination
✨ Body awareness
✨ Fine and gross motor skills
✨ Confidence as they explore new movements

You don’t need complicated activities or fancy equipment either! Simple floor play, tummy time, reaching for toys and plenty of opportunities to move freely can all be valuable parts of your baby’s day. 🧸

Remember, development isn’t a race. Every baby progresses at their own pace, so celebrate those little movements and milestones along the way. 💕

If you have concerns about your baby’s movement or development, speak with an appropriate healthcare professional.

🚶‍♀️ Healthy families walk together! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦💚

Sometimes one of the simplest things you can do for your family’s wellness is to get outside and MOVE.

Regular family walks are an easy, low-impact way to:

❤️ Support cardiovascular health
😊 Boost mood and help reduce everyday stress
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Spend quality time together away from screens
💪 Support strong bones and muscles
🌿 Encourage healthy habits from a young age

Walking also keeps the body moving, helping support mobility, posture, and overall physical wellbeing for both kids and adults.

🧠 FUN FACT FRIDAY!

Did you know that some of the fastest signals in your nervous system can travel at over 100 metres per second? ⚡

Your nervous system is your body’s incredible communication network, constantly sending information between your brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles.

These rapid signals help your body:
⚡ React quickly to your surroundings
💪 Coordinate muscle movement
🖐️ Respond to touch and other sensations
🏃 Control fast, precise movements
🧠 Carry out certain reflex responses

Your brain and body are communicating every second of every day—often before you even have time to think about it!

✨ Your nervous system really is remarkable.

💻 3 WAYS TO GIVE YOUR SPINE A BREAK AT WORK

Spending hours at a desk can leave your neck, back, and shoulders feeling stiff—but your working day doesn’t have to mean sitting in one position for eight hours.

Try building these three simple habits into your day:

1️⃣ Change positions regularly
There’s no single “perfect” posture to hold all day. Sit, stand, stretch, and reposition yourself regularly.

2️⃣ Take short walking breaks
Even a few minutes away from your desk can get your body moving, break up prolonged sitting, and give your muscles and joints a change of position.

3️⃣ Check your desk & screen height
Keep your screen comfortably around eye level and arrange your workspace so you’re not constantly leaning or reaching forward.

🦴 Your spine is designed to move, not stay in one position all day.

Small movement breaks throughout your working day can make a big difference to how your body feels by 5pm!

💬 How often do you actually get up from your desk during the day?

🦴 YOUR NECK & SHOULDERS WORK TOGETHER

Your neck, shoulders, and upper back aren’t separate systems—they work together every time you turn your head, reach for something, sit at your desk, or simply maintain your posture.

The muscles and joints throughout this area help to:
🔹 Support and position your head
🔹 Control neck and shoulder movement
🔹 Stabilise your upper body
🔹 Maintain comfortable posture
🔹 Coordinate everyday movements

That’s why tension or restricted movement in one area can sometimes be felt somewhere else. A stiff neck may be accompanied by tight shoulders, while prolonged postures can leave the whole upper-back region feeling uncomfortable.

💡 Regular movement, stretching, strengthening, and changing position throughout the day can all help keep this area moving comfortably.

If neck or shoulder discomfort is persistent, keeps returning, or begins limiting your movement, consider having it professionally assessed.

✨ Your body works as a team—take care of it that way.

🌅 WHY DOES YOUR BACK FEEL STIFF IN THE MORNING?

Ever wake up feeling like your back needs a few minutes to get going? Morning stiffness is common, especially after your body has spent several hours in the same position.

While you sleep, movement is naturally reduced. This can leave the muscles and joints around your spine feeling temporarily stiff when you first get out of bed.

A few things that may help:
🧘 Start the morning with gentle stretching
🚶 Get up and move rather than staying still
💧 Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day
🛏️ Make sure your sleeping position and pillow support you comfortably
🦴 Pay attention to stiffness that keeps returning or lasts for long periods

For many people, that stiff feeling improves once they start moving—but persistent, worsening, or painful morning stiffness shouldn't simply be ignored.

✨ Give your body a little time and movement to get ready for the day.
