💜Trauma can change a life in an instant.💜
One unexpected phone call. A car accident. A fall. A farming injury. A medical emergency. In a matter of seconds, lives can shift — and for many families, some of the hardest moments they will ever face begin in the Emergency Department.
At Wilbarger General Hospital, our Emergency Department is often where fear, uncertainty, heartbreak, and hope meet.
As a certified Level IV Trauma Center, Wilbarger General Hospital is prepared to provide rapid assessment, stabilization, treatment, and coordination of care for trauma patients close to home.
As a small rural community hospital, we may not always have the size or resources of larger facilities, but what we do have is something deeply meaningful — a team that cares fiercely about the people who come through our doors. When trauma happens, our physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, radiology staff, laboratory teams, EMS partners, and support staff work side by side with one purpose: providing compassionate, lifesaving care when every second matters.
In trauma care, there are moments no one ever forgets. The worried family waiting for answers. The patient fighting through pain and fear. The quiet strength of healthcare workers who show up, day and night, ready to respond when our community needs them most.
In a small town, trauma care is personal.
The person on the stretcher may be your neighbor, your child’s teacher, a lifelong friend, or someone you saw at the grocery store yesterday. We care for people we know, families we love, and a community we proudly call home. That responsibility is something we carry with great humility and compassion.
This Trauma Awareness Month, we also want to remind our community that prevention matters — wearing seatbelts, driving safely, using protective equipment, and looking out for one another can save lives.
To our Emergency Department team and every staff member involved in trauma care: thank you for the courage, skill, compassion, and heart you bring to some of the most difficult moments imaginable.
At Wilbarger General Hospital, trauma care is more than responding to emergencies — it is caring for our community when they need us most. 💜
