Join us for another powerful conversation on The Doctor Is In. 🩺

We’re sitting down with Dr. Wendy Garvin Mayo, DNP, APRN, ANP-BC, Founder of Collaborative Cancer Care and WenWell®, to talk about why mental health and well-being must be an essential part of cancer care.

From diagnosis to survivorship and beyond, the cancer journey can impact so much more than the body. Yet too often, emotional wellness, connection, and support remain fragmented or inaccessible for survivors and their families.

Dr. Garvin Mayo will share her vision for moving beyond isolated programs and building sustainable mental health and well-being infrastructure that supports people throughout the entire cancer care continuum.

✨ What would cancer care look like if emotional wellness and connection were treated as essential, not optional?

Join us as we reimagine what meaningful, connected support can look like for the cancer community.

You finished treatment. Everyone is celebrating. So why don't you feel “back to normal”?

Because cancer doesn't simply disappear from your life when active treatment ends.

Your body may be different.

Your relationships may be different.

Your priorities may have shifted.

You may still have questions, fear, uncertainty—or simply want to be around people who understand.
You don't have to wait until you're struggling to receive support.

Well-being deserves a place in survivorship too.
I'll be talking more about this Wednesday with BlackDoctor.org.

Cancer care needs mental health and well-being infrastructure.

Not just at diagnosis.

Not just during chemotherapy or radiation.

And not only when someone reaches a crisis.

Patients, survivors, caregivers, and families need places where they can stay connected, ask questions, access trusted professionals, develop wellness practices, and feel supported throughout the cancer journey.

That's what we're building at Collaborative Cancer Care.

This Wednesday, I'll be joining BlackDoctor and sharing more about the next step in that vision.

Stay tuned.

What happens when cancer treatment ends… but the emotional impact doesn't?

For many people, completing active treatment—or transitioning to maintenance therapy—brings a new set of questions.

❤️Who am I now?

❤️Why don't I feel like myself yet?

❤️How do I manage the fear, uncertainty, and changes that cancer has created?

❤️And where do I go for support when I'm no longer seeing my cancer care team as often?

We have built strong systems for treating cancer.
Now we need stronger systems for helping people live during and beyond it.

That's the gap we're working to fill at Collaborative Cancer Care.

Something is coming. Stay tuned!

Did you know melanoma is one of the most common cancers diagnosed in Connecticut? Connecticut health officials have partnered with Connecticut Cancer Partnership on FB and American Cancer Society to place 30 free sunscreen dispensers in four high-incidence health districts across the state and provide sun safety outreach.

Watch for the yellow dispenser stations and make sure to apply sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) every two hours - even on cloudy days! If you aren’t near a free dispenser, using your own chemical or mineral sunscreen is important. Professor of Dermatology, Michael Girardi, MD, says a product’s SPF needs to be at least 30 to be considered sunscreen.
