Who takes care of the nurses who care for patients with cancer?

Oncology nurses support patients and families through diagnosis, treatment, uncertainty, and loss—often while carrying grief of their own. They deserve space to acknowledge that grief, feel supported, and care for their own well-being.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Men Have a Role, Too.

Breast cancer may primarily affect women, but supporting women through breast cancer should never be viewed as a women-only conversation.

This October, I’m honored to share My Sister’s Keeper, a short film produced by Dr. Brandon Frame, CEO of TheBlackManCan, and Dr. Wendy Garvin MayoGarvin Mayo, CEO of Collaborative Cancer Care.

The film brings men into the breast cancer conversation and highlights the important role they can play through education, awareness, advocacy, and support.

Men can learn the signs and risks of breast cancer.
Men can encourage the women they love to prioritize screening and their health.
Men can show up during diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and beyond.
Men can become informed advocates in their families and communities.

Sometimes advocacy begins with simply knowing enough to ask the right question, start the conversation, or stand beside someone when they need support most.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re expanding the conversation.

Because when it comes to breast cancer, men can be part of the awareness. Men can be part of the advocacy. And men can be part of the support.

I’m excited to be heading back to Boston to join the Boston ONS Annual Fall Seminar on Saturday, October 3rd!

This year’s theme, “Resilience Across the Ages: Empowering Lives Across the Cancer Continuum,” aligns deeply with the work we are doing to expand what support looks like beyond cancer treatment.

I’ll be speaking on a Cancer Survivorship panel, sharing how we have built wellness programs through Collaborative Cancer Care, powered by WenWell-Making Wellness Standard of Care, to support survivors as they navigate life during and after cancer.

Survivorship is more than surveillance and follow-up appointments. It is also about helping people rebuild capacity, experience safety, and strengthen connection as they manage the emotional, physical, relational, and practical impact of cancer.

Through WenWell®, we are creating programs and experiences that help survivors understand what supports their wellness, recognize what depletes them, develop practical tools for managing stress, and reconnect with a sense of agency in their lives.

I’m looking forward to sharing what we’ve learned—and, just as importantly, learning from fellow oncology professionals committed to improving survivorship care.

Because surviving cancer is one milestone. Supporting people in living well beyond cancer must also be part of the standard of care.
