I just love the 23rd Psalm, as it speaks of God’s deep and intimate love for His own. It speaks of His protection, His provision, and His blessings.

Just as we love to bestow goodness on our children, God loves to do the same. Yet He has everything at His disposal. There is no limit to what He is able to do for His children.

Not only does He want to prepare a place for you at the table…

But He wants to bless you where your enemies are able to observe. He wants them to see just how He loves you and has your back.

The anointing of oil was a sign of honor and respect. It was also fragrant in order to help refresh you after a long, hard journey.

He thinks of everything.

He cares about you so deeply. He sees the hard journey you’ve been on, and He wants to anoint your head with a fragrant refreshing oil, to bestow honor and respect toward you, His child that He loves and cherishes.

He wants to bless you at His table, where your enemies are able to look on and see that your cup overflows with His goodness.

They can try to destroy you…

But…

The Lord is your shepherd.

Take comfort in that truth, and meditate on this entire passage.
