Today's sponsored resident for our Walk to End Alzheimer's fundraiser is Jeanne L., sponsored by Jenny G.

Jeanne spent her working life in New York City, where she dedicated her career to caring for others as a Pain and Palliative Care RN at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Her work was centered around providing comfort, compassion, and support to patients and their families during some of life's most difficult moments.

Jeanne has a deep appreciation for classical and symphonic music and enjoys getting lost in a beautiful piece of music. And when she's ready to relax, there's a good chance you'll find her binge-watching Bridgerton!

Born in Appleton, Wisconsin, Joan went on to become a teacher, spending her career educating and making an impact on others. A true free spirit, Joan has a fun-loving personality that makes her a joy to be around.

Joan enjoys the simple things that make life good—a cold Diet Coke, listening to classical music, and spending time gardening. Most of all, Joan loves to laugh! You're likely to find her with a smile on her face, telling a joke and sharing her sense of humor with everyone around her.

Meet Phyllis!

Today's sponsored resident for our Walk to End Alzheimer's fundraiser is Phyllis B., sponsored by Sydney S.

Phyllis has spent her life telling stories through art, film, and writing. Her talents even took her to Italy as a Fulbright Scholar, an incredible opportunity that allowed her to continue exploring her passion for creativity and culture.

Much of Phyllis' work focused on the cultural changes of the 1950s and 60s and the Women's Liberation movement. One of her films, "Farm Women: A Century of Experience," shared the stories and experiences of women working on farms throughout Wisconsin—preserving an important piece of history through her work.

And when she's not talking art or film, you might find Phyllis cheering on her Wisconsin teams! She's a big Packers and Badgers fan and loves supporting the home teams.

Residents like Phyllis remind us that every person has a lifetime of experiences, passions, and stories worth celebrating. Bertie has an incredible story of education, determination, and breaking barriers. She began her career as an American Literature teacher before going on to become a cardiologist. Bertie attended medical school during a time when women made up only about 3% of medical students, and she is a proud member of the National Medical Honor Society—accomplishments that speak to her intelligence, perseverance, and passion for helping others.

These days, Bertie is a devoted dog mom to her beloved Skipper, who receives plenty of love and attention. She's also one of our community's most enthusiastic participants! If there's an activity happening at Azura, chances are you'll find Bertie there, ready to join in on the fun.

Don spent his career as a Professor of Mathematics, sharing his knowledge and passion for learning with others. Outside of the classroom, he also dedicated his time to giving back, volunteering through his church to help individuals experiencing homelessness in Fort Worth, Texas.

Those who know Don know him as a kind, true gentleman who almost always has a smile on his face. He also has a special love for New York City—especially Broadway! Music and art of all kinds hold a special place in Don's heart, and he appreciates the creativity and stories they bring to life.

Meet Jeff!

Jeff dedicated his career to serving others through the Madison Police Department, where he eventually retired as a Captain. His commitment to helping people didn't stop there—Jeff also spent more than 50 years on ski patrol at Devil's Head, an incredible milestone that speaks to his dedication and love of staying active.

Jeff is also known for bringing a little music wherever he goes. Ask him how he's doing in the hallway and there's a good chance he'll immediately start singing, "I feel good!" Music is a big part of who Jeff is, with favorites including John Denver and Neil Diamond.
