Though today’s Memorial Day Parade was washed out, the spirit of remembrance remained strong in and around Verona Town Hall as our community gathered to honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

We are grateful to be part of a town that continues to come together in remembrance — honoring not only the lives lost, but the legacy of courage, service, and sacrifice they leave behind.

Today, and every day, we remember with gratitude. 🇺🇸

We are saddened to share the passing of Mr. John A. Runge, a longtime funeral director, colleague, neighbor, and friend.

John was a licensed funeral director in New Jersey for 50 years and served families throughout our area with professionalism, care, and quiet dedication. Since 1990, he owned John Espy Monument Works here in Verona, just down the street from Prout Funeral Home, and over the years he became a familiar and valued presence to our family, our staff, and so many in the community.

John also assisted Prout Funeral Home and other area funeral homes as an on-call funeral director, always bringing with him experience, dependability, and his unmistakable wit. He had a way of making people feel at ease, even in the middle of the work we do, and we will miss his humor, his stories, and his steady presence.

We are grateful for John’s many years of commitment to funeral service, to Verona, Glen Ridge, Bloomfield, and the surrounding communities, and to the many organizations and neighbors he supported throughout his life.

Visiting will be held at Prout Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 20, from 3 to 6 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Upper Montclair on Thursday at 11 a.m.

Memories and condolences may be shared on his obituary page at https://proutfuneralhome.com/obituaries/john-runge.

For families who turned to John for monument and inscription needs, please know that those services will be completed as contracted.

John was born on June 27th, 1952 and passed away on May 14th, 2026 at the age of 73

Some of the most lasting memories of home begin with a mother.

The recipes made from memory instead of measurements.
The holiday traditions passed down year after year.
The voice reminding us to drive safely, bring a jacket, or make sure everyone at the table had enough to eat.

On Mother’s Day, we’re reminded that love often lives on in the smallest everyday moments — the ones that quietly become part of who we are.

Today, we honor the mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, and maternal figures who shaped our families, our traditions, and our community. We also hold close those who are missing someone deeply today.

From our family to yours, Happy Mother’s Day. 💐

A new year doesn’t need an announcement.

What matters most is what stays the same — steady care, familiar faces, and a commitment to being here for our community.

As 2026 begins, we continue our work with the same purpose and compassion that have guided Prout Funeral Home since 1924.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Angelo Pomarico.

Angelo was so much more than a member of our team — he was part of the family. For years, he greeted families at our doors, stood with us at services both here and off-site, and offered his steady presence wherever he was needed. Loyal, gracious, and endlessly dependable, he was always the first to lend a hand and the last to leave.

Those who knew Angelo knew how full of life he was — his warm smile, his laugh, his stories, his kitchen advice, and the way he made every person feel seen and cared for. He had a gift for making even the hardest days a little lighter. He embodied kindness in its truest form and carried himself with the quiet dignity of a true gentleman.

It is impossible to capture in words how special Angelo was, how deeply he meant to each of us, and how profoundly we will miss him. His presence filled our halls; his compassion touched countless families; his friendship enriched our lives.

Angelo made his corner of the world better simply by being in it.
And we are better for having known him.

May God grant him eternal rest, and may his family be comforted by the love and admiration so many people hold for him.

Service information, condolences, and memories may be shared on Angelo's Remember Page at https://proutfuneralhome.com/obituaries/angelo-pomarico

🇺🇸 On this Veterans Day, we honor all who have served — and the families who have stood beside them.

For the Prout family, that gratitude runs generations deep. Our second-generation owner/ director, Frank Prout, served as a medic in the Army Air Corps during World War II — a role that reflected compassion, courage, and quiet service. His example continues to inspire the care and respect we bring to every veteran and family we serve today.

While we couldn’t be at the Verona Veterans Day Ceremony at Town Hall this morning, our hearts were with our veterans and the community gathered together to honor their service and sacrifice.

It’s a privilege to serve those who have served — and to help veteran families receive the honors and recognition they’ve earned.

To all who have worn the uniform and all who continue to serve: thank you for your courage, your sacrifice, and your service. 🕊️
