In case you missed any of these! What’s happening at The Embodied Mariposa 🦋

📚 Our Curanderismo Book Club is tonight (Thursday) at 8:30pm CST! We have decided to meet weekly and it’s an amazing group so far. If you’re interested, dm your email and I’ll forward the info! This is virtual and open to anyone curious about curanderismo!

🧘🏽‍♀️ Zen at The Texas Zoo is THIS SATURDAY at 8:30AM. We’ll have iced coffee from Gardenhouse Coffee & Espresso Bar and your fee includes admission to the Zoo! If it’s raining, we’ll do our practice inside.

🪶🥚I’ll be doing limpias at Mae & Monk's Apothecary on Sunday 6/7 from 12-4. Spots will be limited! Miss Mae will also be doing card readings!

Some days, my body asks to be horizontal.

This pic was taken while I was logging on for a therapy session. Pajamas on. Bare face. Kinda brushed hair. Blanket pulled up. Conserving every spoon I can for the people I serve.

Living with chronic illness has required me to redefine what professionalism looks like. Thunderstorm days and significant pressure changes can hit me hard. Today my head feels full of pressure, my ears and eyes hurt, and my body aches. 😖

On days when I truly can’t be present or give my full attention to a client, I reschedule. My clients deserve that. It’s also something we talk about from the beginning of working together or for those who have been with me since BC (before chronic illness), they have learned my patterns with me and I have so much gratitude for their understanding 🫶🏽

On days like this, I accommodate myself.
I adjust my environment. I rest between sessions. I work from bed if needed. I allow my body the support it is asking for so I can continue doing the work I love.

And I don’t believe that makes me any less effective as a therapist.

In fact, I think it has made me more compassionate. More understanding. More aware of the reality that healing, working, and existing don’t always happen under perfect conditions.

Sometimes resilience looks less like pushing through and more like honoring your limits while continuing to show up in the ways you can.

Today, that looked like therapy from bed with a pug supervisor nearby. 🐾

For anyone navigating chronic illness, disability, pain, fatigue, or a body that doesn’t always cooperate: accommodations are not failures. They are tools that help us participate in our lives and there is no shame in using them. 💜
