At Building Kid Steps, we believe EVERY child deserves to experience the fun and excitement of trick-or-treating, regardless of how they communicate!

Whether your child is nonverbal, uses AAC, is shy, or just needs a little extra support, we’ve got some simple, budget-friendly Halloween hacks to help make the night a little easier for everyone!

🎉 BIG STEPS DON'T STOP AT THE CLINIC! 🧡💜

We're excited to announce a new partnership between Building Kid Steps and Korro!

We're beginning to introduce fun, interactive, game-based home therapy programs for our pediatric patients ages 4–12!

With Korro, your child's therapist can select activities that support their individual therapy goals, giving families new opportunities to practice skills beyond the clinic.

⭐ Opportunities to practice skills between therapy sessions

📈 Home practice tracking to help therapists guide progress

💜 And the best part? There is NO ADDITIONAL COST to our families!

👕 Bring us your child's own comfortable T-shirt.

💵 Pay just $5 CASH per shirt to cover the transfer.

📅 Bring your shirt and payment by Tuesday, October 20!

We'll apply the design and have your shirt ready later that week, just in time for Halloween festivities!

💜 FINISH STRONG FRIDAY | The Moments That Matter 💜

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

At Building Kid Steps, we spend a great deal of time measuring progress. We count repetitions, track percentages, document milestones, and celebrate goals achieved.

And those measurements matter. They help us recognize growth, guide our decisions, and determine the next steps in someone's journey.

But some of the most meaningful moments in life cannot be captured in a number or recorded on a progress chart.

The first time a child finds a way to communicate something meaningful.

The determination of someone taking steps they once thought might never be possible again.

The joy on a parent's face when they recognize just how far their child has come.

And beyond the therapy room, those moments are everywhere.

A child's laughter. A beautiful sunset. The smell of something baking in the oven. A familiar voice, an unexpected hug, or a memory made in the most ordinary of places.

So often, we become focused on the next goal, the next responsibility, or the next thing that needs our attention that we overlook the beauty of what's happening right in front of us.

Perhaps finishing strong isn't always about how much we've accomplished. Sometimes it's about recognizing how much we've been given along the way.

As you head into the weekend, celebrate the milestones, cherish the ordinary, and make time for the moments that matter.

Because years from now, we may not remember everything we accomplished this week, but we just might remember the moments that took our breath away.

From sensory-friendly costumes made with favorite comfy clothes to creative wheelchair costumes, a little imagination can help every child join the fun!

Think skeleton pajamas, superhero shirts, rolling pumpkins, royal carriages, and spaceships with candy that’s outta this world! 🚀🍬 Hats and accessories are optional—let your child’s comfort and interests lead the way.

💜 Meet the Faces of BKS: Mrs. LaRae! 💜

This week, we’re celebrating LaRae Kelley, our featured therapist in the October/November BKS magazine!

Mrs. LaRae has been part of the Building Kid Steps family for more than eight years. Her father’s experience with speech therapy following brain-cancer surgery inspired her to become a speech-language pathologist. Today, she has a special passion for helping adults regain communication, confidence, and independence.

Her superpower? Encouraging others and celebrating the small wins—because she knows how much those steps matter. 💜

Outside the clinic, her world includes family, faith, horses, cattle, and barrel races!

LaRae, thank you for the heart, encouragement, and dedication you bring to BKS. We’re grateful you’re part of our team!
