May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Mental health matters at every age. 💚
I wanted to share a gentle reminder for parents and caregivers navigating mental health concerns with children and teens. When a mental health or medical evaluation is recommended, it does not automatically mean medication is being recommended. Evaluations are meant to help assess safety concerns, better understand symptoms, identify underlying issues, and determine what support may be helpful. Support can look different for every child and teen.
When children or teens are experiencing severe emotional distress, self-harming behaviors, suicidal thoughts, or other concerning behaviors, it is important that those concerns are explored with care, compassion, and support. Early intervention and open conversations can make a meaningful difference.
Parenting does not come with a manual, and many families are trying their best while navigating situations they may have never experienced before. Mental health conversations can feel overwhelming, confusing, or even scary at times. Seeking additional support or an evaluation is not a sign of failure, it is an act of love, advocacy, and care.
My office is committed to providing a supportive, compassionate, and judgment-free environment for children, teens, adults, and families navigating emotional and mental health challenges.
