The High Desert is in the middle of a serious heat wave β€” and that changes how alcohol affects your body behind the wheel.

Extreme heat accelerates dehydration, and dehydration intensifies the effects of alcohol. In triple-digit temperatures, impairment sets in faster and hits harder. What feels like a couple of drinks can put you well over the legal limit in these conditions β€” and law enforcement is still out in force across the Victor Valley this weekend.

A first-time DUI in California averages $13,500 in fines and penalties on top of mandatory program requirements, license suspension, and IID installation. It's not worth the risk.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and plan a safe ride home if you're drinking. And if you've already been through a DUI arrest and need to get your program enrollment started, we're right here in Victorville.

Jackson-Bibby offers virtual DUI classes via Zoom for qualifying clients in San Bernardino County. Classes are state-licensed, fully accepted by the court and DMV, and follow the same curriculum as our in-person sessions. Law enforcement is not letting up in the High Desert this summer.

Operation Consequences β€” the ongoing multi-agency crime suppression effort targeting Victorville, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Adelanto, and Barstow β€” just wrapped its latest weeklong sweep (July 6–12), resulting in 11 felony arrests and 29 fi****ms seized, including 7 ghost guns. The operation involves the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, CHP, San Bernardino PD, County Probation, and Homeland Security β€” and it's continuing through the coming months.

If you've recently been arrested for DUI anywhere in the Victor Valley and have a court or DMV requirement pending, now is the time to get enrolled. Delays create bigger problems, and Jackson-Bibby is right here in Victorville with morning, afternoon, and evening scheduling to help you move forward.

California DUI laws may be about to get significantly stricter β€” and two bills moving through the legislature right now are worth paying attention to.

AB 1830 would require every DUI conviction β€” including first-time offenses β€” to include mandatory IID installation. Currently, many first-time offenders in San Bernardino County aren't required to install one. That would change if this bill passes.

SB 907 (Braun's Law) would close a gap in the Watson advisement system, ensuring that even when DUI charges are reduced to a wet reckless or hit and run, defendants still receive the formal warning that future impaired driving resulting in a death could lead to murder charges.

Both bills cleared key committee hearings on June 30 and are still moving. Nothing is law yet β€” but California is clearly tightening the framework around DUI consequences at every level.

If you were recently arrested for DUI in the High Desert, there's a deadline most people don't know about β€” and it expires fast.

California law gives you just 10 days from your arrest date to request an administrative hearing with the DMV. If you don't act within that window, your license is automatically suspended β€” even if your criminal case hasn't gone to court yet. The DMV process runs completely separately from your criminal case.

Don't wait on either front. Talk to your attorney about the DMV hearing, and get your program enrollment started. Jackson-Bibby is right here in Victorville with flexible scheduling to help you move forward quickly.

If you're enrolled in a court-ordered DUI program and missed a session β€” or think you're about to β€” the most important thing you can do is contact your program immediately.

DUI program providers in California are required by state law to track attendance and report non-compliance to the court and DMV.

That means absences don't go unnoticed. But one missed class, handled quickly, is usually very different from a pattern of absences.

We put together a guide breaking down exactly what happens, what your options are, and why communication is everything.

Summer weekends in the High Desert mean more vehicles on the road β€” and historically, more DUI enforcement activity to match. CHP and local agencies consistently increase patrols and checkpoints from June through Labor Day.

If you've recently been arrested for DUI anywhere in the Victor Valley and have a court-ordered program requirement, don't wait for your deadline to get close. Enrollment takes time to schedule, and getting started early keeps the process moving with the court and DMV.

If you've been convicted of a DUI in San Bernardino or Riverside County, an ignition interlock device (IID) is likely part of what you're dealing with β€” and the rules around them have gotten stricter
A few things a lot of people don't realize:
πŸ”Ή The IID requirement and your DUI program are separate β€” you have to do both
πŸ”Ή First-time offenders can install an IID voluntarily to get a restricted license sooner
πŸ”Ή Every breath test, rolling retest, and missed calibration appointment is recorded and reported

We just published a detailed guide on how IID requirements work in the High Desert, what they cost, and the steps to stay compliant.

If you've been ordered to complete a DUI program and aren't sure how long it will take β€” the answer isn't the same for everyone.
California has multiple program lengths depending on your case: 3 months, 6 months, or 18 months. Which one applies to you depends on your offense history, your BAC at arrest, and what the court or DMV ordered.

Our new guide explains the difference between AB541, AB762, and SB38 programs in plain language β€” so you know exactly what you're looking at before you walk in the door.
