We have received an influx of inquiries from Medicare patients regarding the forthcoming changes to weight loss medications effective July 2026.

In light of this development, we recommend that patients contact their Medicare plan prior to scheduling a visit to confirm coverage eligibility. It is noteworthy that Medicare Part D patients may qualify for coverage, contingent upon meeting specific criteria. Patients seeking weight loss medications will still need to fulfill the Bridge criteria and obtain prior authorization from their provider.

As of July 1, 2026, Medicare's GLP-1 Bridge program will enable eligible Medicare Part D patients to access certain GLP-1 medications, including Wegovy, Foundayo, and Zepbound KwikPen, with a $50 copay, subject to prior authorization and clinical criteria. Eligibility criteria include adults with a BMI of 35 or higher, or those with a BMI of 30 or higher with additional health conditions, or a BMI of 27 or higher with specific health conditions.

Our team will be pleased to assist Medicare patients in initiating treatment after July 1st. Patients are encouraged to go ahead schedule July appointments for this new coverage opportunity!
