A tribute in memory of Joyce M. Walton
December 10, 1944 - May 30, 2026

To Remember Me…

The day will come when my body will lie upon a
white sheet, neatly tucked under four corners of a mattress
located in a hospital busily occupied with the living and the dying.
At a certain moment, a doctor will determine that my brain has ceased to function and that for all intents
And purposes, my life has stopped.

When that happens, do not attempt to instill artificial life into my
Body by the use of a machine.
And don’t call this my death bed.
Let it be called the Bed of Life, and let my body be
Taken from it to help others lead fuller lives.

Give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise,
A baby’s face or love in the eyes of a woman.
Give my heart to a person whose own heart
Has caused nothing but endless days of pain.

Give my blood to a teenager who was pulled from the wreckage
Of his car so that he might live to see his grandchildren play.
Give my kidneys to one who depends on a machine to exist
From week to week.
Take my bones, every muscle, every fiber and
Nerve in my body and find a way to make a crippled child walk.

Explore every corner of my brain. Take my cells,
If necessary, and let them grow so that someday, a speechless boy will shout at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear
The sound of rain against her window.

Burn what is left of me and scatter
The ashes to the winds to help flowers grow.
If you must bury something, let it be my faults,
My weaknesses and all prejudice against my fellow man.
Give my sins to the devil.
Give my soul to God.

If by chance you wish to remember me, do it with
A kind deed or a word to someone who needs you.
If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.

- Robert N. Test

Joyce leaves behind a loving family and the love of her life, Bob Peterson, to cherish her memory.

In accordance with her wishes, Joyce’s body has been donated to medical science in the hope of the furtherance of education and the eventual discovery of cures to, as of yet, incurable diseases.

During Emergency Medical Services Week, we pause to recognize and thank the dedicated men and women who answer the call—day or night—bringing care, comfort, and life-saving support to those in need. 🚑
What many may not realize is that the roots of emergency medical services are closely tied to the funeral profession. Years ago, funeral homes often served as the community’s first ambulance providers. With vehicles, availability, and a commitment to serving families at all hours, funeral directors were among the first to respond in times of medical emergencies—long before modern EMS systems were established.
While today’s emergency medical services have evolved into highly trained, specialized teams, that same spirit of service and compassion remains at the heart of both professions.
At Bailey Funeral Home, we are proud of that shared history and grateful for the EMS professionals who continue to serve our communities with dedication, skill, and heart.
Thank you for being there when it matters most. ❤️

🇺🇸 Memorial Day Notice 🇺🇸
Bailey Funeral Home will be CLOSED on Memorial Day so our staff may take time to reflect and honor alongside our community.
This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.
Their sacrifice is the reason we are able to enjoy the freedoms we hold dear today. It is a day not just for reflection, but for gratitude—for the courage, dedication, and selflessness shown by those who never came home.
We also recognize that Memorial Day has become a meaningful tradition for many families in our community—visiting cemeteries, placing flowers, and taking time to honor loved ones. Whether remembering a veteran or simply cherishing the life of someone dearly missed, these moments of remembrance are powerful and important. ❤️
At Bailey Funeral Home, we are deeply honored to serve all families as they remember, reflect, and celebrate lives that continue to mean so much.
As you spend time with loved ones today, we invite you to take a moment to remember those who made it possible—and those who made a lasting impact on your own life. ❤️🤍💙
