Helping kids understand their feelings is a huge part of growing up. Games about emotions are a fantastic tool because they make learning about big feelings fun and interactive. It's a playful way to build emotional regulation skills, improve social interactions and help kids express themselves in healthy ways.

☀️ Summer Check-In! ☀️

As the countdown to the first day of school begins, there’s still plenty of time to make memories while helping your child build important developmental skills through play.

Here are a few simple activities to enjoy together before school starts:

🌿 Nature Scavenger Hunt – Encourage observation, problem-solving and language skills while exploring outdoors.

🎨 Sidewalk Chalk Creations – Draw obstacle courses, practice letters, shapes, or hopscotch to build coordination and motor planning.

🍋 Cook Together – Measuring, stirring, pouring and following recipes strengthen fine motor skills, sequencing and independence.

🫧 Water Play – Squeezing sponges, using spray bottles and pouring between containers helps strengthen little hands while keeping cool.

📚 Visit the Library – Reading together supports language development, attention and imagination.

🚲 Get Moving – Bike rides, playground visits, family walks and backyard games help build strength, balance and coordination.

❤️ Most importantly, enjoy the unstructured moments. Some of the best learning happens through everyday play, curiosity, and quality time together.

We’re looking forward to seeing all of our families as we head into a new school year!

We’re having fun over here at CDOT with our Spring-Themed garden sensory table.

Sensory tables are great for kids because they boost sensory exploration, fine motor skills and are also a fun way to work on hand-eye coordination.
