Yesterday, Tanner Health welcomed Natasha Taylor, the new CEO of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Georgia, to Willowbrooke at Tanner for a discussion and facility tour.

Taylor, who assumed her role in July, met with Tanner Health and Willowbrooke at Tanner leadership to discuss expanding access to behavioral healthcare, strengthening community partnerships and exploring opportunities to work together to support individuals and families throughout Georgia.

We appreciate the opportunity to connect with NAMI Georgia and look forward to building on our shared commitment to advancing mental health and wellness. 💚

• For children, look out for withdrawal, frequent sadness or loss of interest in activities.
• For teens, pay attention to drastic changes in mood, grades or friendships.
• For young adults, feelings of hopelessness, self-isolation or talking about being a burden may be warning signs.
• For adults, note changes in behavior, talk of feeling trapped or turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms.
• For seniors, loss of purpose, withdrawal from loved ones or giving away belongings could be cause for concern.

Understanding the mental health disorders most associated with a high risk of su***de can help promote awareness, early intervention and support for those in need. 💡 🧠 Here are five mental health conditions frequently linked to higher su***de rates:

Depression 😞 — Major depressive disorder is one of the most common mental health conditions impacting individuals worldwide. If left untreated, the overwhelming feelings of hopelessness and despair it causes can lead to a heightened risk of su***de. ⚠️

Bipolar Disorder 🎢 — Individuals with bipolar disorder experience extreme mood swings, from manic highs to depressive lows. These drastic shifts in mood and energy levels can contribute to suicidal thoughts, particularly during depressive episodes. 🔄

Schizophrenia 🧩 — Those living with schizophrenia face challenges, such as hallucinations, paranoia and social isolation. These factors, combined with feelings of disconnection, can significantly increase the risk of su***de in individuals with this disorder. 🧠 ⚠️

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) 💔 — Emotional instability and difficulty managing relationships are hallmarks of BPD. This intense emotional pain and impulsivity may lead to self-harming behaviors or suicidal ideation. 🔥

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) 😰 — PTSD develops after exposure to a traumatic event and is frequently linked with feelings of helplessness, flashbacks and intrusive thoughts. If left untreated, the distress caused by PTSD can contribute to suicidal tendencies. 💥

By recognizing these high-risk disorders and fostering a safe, understanding environment for open conversations, we can work together to provide hope and support. 🤝 💚
