Obit for Donna Susanne Almy

Donna Susanne Almy, age 86 of Vincennes, IN passed away on August 28, 2026 at Greenleaf Health Campus in Elkhart, IN. Donna was born on August 20, 1940 to Henry and Catherine Kroeger in Vincennes, IN. She married Freddie Joe Almy on September 4, 1965 in Vincennes, and they made their life together for over 53 years, until his passing on October 12, 2018. Donna graduated from Lincoln High School and she worked for several years at Hamilton Glass. She loved to debate and it did not matter about the topic. She enjoyed watching soap operas, and keeping her mind sharp by doing puzzles, watching the game network, playing board games, and dice games, especially Bunco. She also enjoyed the quietness of coloring. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan.

Donna is survived by her children, Jeff Almy (Cara) of Spokane, WA and Penny (Warren) Seegers of Elkhart, IN; grandchildren, Derek (Shaleena) Almy, Brandi Eskildsen, Jory Seegers, Diamond Kelly, Charles (Erika) Almy, Brent (Allie) Almy, Gwenivere Seegers, Coy (Joey) Seegers, and Zane Seegers and great grandchildren Bristol, Jack, Julian and Jaylanie as well as her siblings, Phyllis (Eugene) Grothaus, Bernie (Judy) Kroeger.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Almy, daughter Stacy Lynn Williams, her parents and her siblings Wilma Thorne, Henry "Hank" Kroeger, Jr., Marietta Belcher and Marjorie "Margie" Dasch.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on October 17, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Mt Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Rivet Athletic Dept in her memory. The family will receive friends after 9:00 AM at the church. Obit for Betty (Shank) Dailey R.N.
Betty (Shank) Dailey, RN, 91 a cornerstone of compassion and healthcare in the Vincennes community, passed away peacefully today, August 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the community she spent nearly seven decades serving. Born with a natural calling to comfort others, Betty’s nursing journey began with a childhood promise. Following the passing of her mother when Betty was just seven years old, she resolved to dedicate her life to medical service. She went on to graduate from Sumner High School and earned her nursing degree from Vincennes University in 1957. For 40 years, Betty served as a dedicated OB/GYN delivery nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. To thousands of Knox County mothers and newborns, she was a steady, comforting presence during life’s most vulnerable and joyful milestones. Even after her formal retirement from the hospital in 1998, Betty's mission did not end; she spent an additional five years as a visiting nurse, guiding at-risk mothers and infants through the realities of poverty and health challenges with unwavering grace. Her exceptional dedication was recognized during Nurse’s Week when Good Samaritan Hospital honored her with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award—a testament to a career defined by humanity, courage, and heart. Betty often shared that nursing was never just a job, but a lifelong calling that she gave her whole heart to. Outside of her uniform, Betty was a devoted mother and grandmother, proudly watching her own daughter and granddaughter follow in her footsteps into the nursing profession. She remained a beloved sister to her 1957 nursing classmates, meeting with them weekly for decades. Betty’s legacy of selflessness, resilience, and profound empathy will continue to live on through the generations of families she brought into this world and the loved ones she leaves behind. Betty married John Dailey on April 1, 1957 and they made their life together for 58 years.

Betty is survived by her children, Susan Goodman of Indianapolis, IN, John Charles Dailey of Vincennes, IN and Kathy Swalls of Nashville, TN. Her grandchildren, Karl (Abby) Goodman, Ryan (Meredith) Swalls, Adam (Abby) Swalls, Hannah (Cade) Wolf, Sarah (Dan Gammoh) Swalls, her great grandchildren, Ethan Swalls, Cora Swalls, Duke Swalls and Walter Swalls. A sister, Mary Grove of Sumner, IL, and a sister in law, Ann Shank of Lawrenceville, IL also survives her.
She is reunited in peace with her cherished husband, John M. Dailey, who preceded her in death in May 2017, her parents, Henry and Marguerite (Haines) Shank, her brothers, Norman (Bud) Shank, William Shank, John Shank and a sister, Evelyn Brewer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday August 27, 2026 at !:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Mt. Obit for Charles K. Nicholson
Charles K. Nicholson, 87, of Vincennes, Indiana, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026. Born on May 4, 1939, in Indian Springs, Indiana, Charlie was the son of Kenneth E. Nicholson and Pansy Sipes Nicholson. He was a retired mechanic and farmer who was known throughout his community as a dependable friend and neighbor, always willing to lend a hand with repairs or help wherever it was needed.
Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Army during the early 1960s. Charlie lived his Christian faith through his daily interactions, demonstrating kindness, compassion, and generosity to those around him. He also served his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Harrison Township Fire Department. An active member of the 40 et 8 organization, Charlie served on the Vincennes 40 et 8, Voiture 107 Board of Directors for approximately 20 years and held several leadership positions within the local voiture. At the state level, he served for several years as Sous Chef for the Southwest Indiana District and was a familiar and respected presence at the Indiana 40 et 8 Grande Promenade until declining health prevented his attendance. Charlie was admired and respected by fellow voyageurs throughout Indiana. In addition, he was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and formerly the Moose Lodge.

Charlie is survived by his children, Rick (Rhonda) Nicholson of Fort Wayne, IN; Lisa Erdosy of Fishers, IN; Jana Nicholson of Evansville, IN; and Jon (Cindi) Nicholson of Evansville, IN; as well as his daughter-in-law, Cindy Nicholson of Vincennes, IN. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jacob Nicholson, Natalie Nicholson, Brad Nicholson, Matthew Erdosy, and Nicholas Erdosy. Charlie shared a special bond with his neighbors, Jody and LaRie Adams, and their family, including Gracie (Brady) Anderson, Libby Adams, and grandson Barrett Anderson. He was preceded in death by his son, Chris Nicholson, whose memory remained close to his heart.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery in Shoals, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made in Charlie's memory to the Deaconess Chancellor Center for Oncology or the 40 et 8.

Obit for Mark W. Ashcraft
Mark W. Ashcraft, 62, of Vincennes, passed away August 4, 2026 in Indianapolis, IN at I U University Hospital with all of his family by his side. Mark was born February 4, 1964 in Lawrenceville, IL the son of Larry and Carolyn (Schultz) Ashcraft. He was a graduate of South Knox High School and continued his education at Vincennes University receiving a AS degree in construction trades technology. He began a career with Niehaus Lumber as a contractor sales representative for over 40 years. On April 29, 1995, he married Joyce Horsting and they made their life together for over 31 years. Mark was a member of St. John Catholic Church, former member of the KofC, an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and collecting guns. He enjoyed family gatherings, going to Alana’s softball games and to his grandson Kolt’s Tball games. In his spare time, he operated HC auto detailing.

Mark is survived by his wife, Joyce Ashcraft, children, Scott Kaiser, Karen Thomas and Alana (Nathan) Ashcraft all of Vincennes, IN. His grandchildren, Brayten Kaiser, Chase Kaiser, Gretchen Anderson, Alyssa Thomas, Kolt Hatfield, Charleigh Hatfield, Kruz Tislow and a great grandchild, Stella Anderson. He is also survived by his brother, Mike (Alicia) Ashcraft, sisters in law, Mae Horsting, Patty (Jerry) Melvin, a brother in law, Bob (Marilyn) Horsting and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Carolyn Ashcraft, a son, Walter Joe Kaiser Jr., a niece, Lindsey Fleck and several brothers and sisters in law.

Funeral services will be held August 10, 2026 at 7:00 PM at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. Philip H. Studler Sr., 82, of Vincennes, passed away Sunday July 26, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Hospital with his family at his bedside. Philip was born February 14, 1944 in Vincennes the son of Herbert W and Martha I. Glass Studler. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and was a musician. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Philip is survived by his children, Philip (Mary Lou) Studler Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, Linda Reynolds of Vincennes and Stephen (Michelle) Studler of Indianapolis, IN. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. His niece, Cyndi (Troy) Muncrief of Hot Springs, AR also survives.

He was preceded in death by a son, James L. Studler, his parents, Herbert W. Studler and Martha I. Glass Studler and 3 brothers, Fritz Studler, James Studler and Herbert Studler.

A gathering to celebrate his life will be held Thursday August 13, 2026 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A procession to the gravesite will take place and he will be laid to rest in the Studler lot in Memorial Park Cemetery. David L. Lory Sr., 83, of Vincennes, passed away July 14, 2026 at Majestic Health in Sheridan, IN. David was born June 27, 1943 in Kokomo, IN the son of William E. and Edith Bernice Ray Lory. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and worked for the Vincennes School Corporation in the maintaince department. He married Charlene Whaley on May 23, 1964 and they made their life together until her death on January 11, 2025. David was a member of First Christian Church, Eagles Lodge and Moose Lodge. He was an active volunteer at the Indiana Military Museum He was a man who lived his Christian faith in everything he did for so many people.

He is survived by a son, David “DJ” Lory Jr of Vincennes, his brothers, Donnie (Margery) Bilskie and Robert (Lilly) Crock, a sister, Leona Browning several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene, his parents, and a brother, Louis “Bud” Thomas.

Gravesite services will be held Friday August 7, 2026 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Jim Evans officiating at Memorial Park Cemetery where he will be interred with his wife Charlene. Obit for John T. Nowaskie
John T. Nowaskie, 84, of Vincennes, IN. passed away on July 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Vincennes, IN. on March 22, 1942, to Johnny and Pauline Nowaskie. John spent his entire life in the community he loved. A graduate of Decker High School, he dedicated his life to his faith, his family and the land he proudly farmed. Best known for Nowaskie Melons, John spent decades raising watermelons, corn and soybeans. Farming was more than a career, it was his passion and calling. Above all else, John loved his family. He shared a beautiful life with his wife Doris Jane (Mouzin) Nowaskie, building a home filled with love, laughter and hard work. You would often hear him saying “If there’s a will, there’s a way. John’s Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Vincennes, living a life rooted in faith, service and compassion. He was also a member of the Vincennes Knights of Columbus and Eagles. As a respected leader in agriculture, John served as a past President of the Illiana Watermelon Association, where he worked tirelessly to support fellow growers and promote the watermelon industry. John’s legacy is one of faith, family, and farming. He planted more than crops, he planted kindness, integrity, and values that will continue to grow through generations. He will rest peacefully knowing his land will thrive through John F., Charlie and William. He would want to leave you with one last thought, “If you cant remember me with smiles and laughter, don’t remember me at all.!”

John is survived by his children: Brenda Coffman, Suzanne Snider (John), John F. Nowaskie (Melinda) and Kristy Cardinal; his sister Judy Osborne, his sister-in-law Jean Nowaskie and brother-in-law Paul Mouzin (Amelia); his seven grandchildren Elizabeth (Quentin) Hornby, William (Brie) Coffman, Christopher Coffman, Sally Siewers (Robert), Emily Bahr (Mitchell), William and Jonathan Cardinal; nine great-grandchildren Hunter, Kynlee, Jade, Harper, Olivia, Henry, Crew, Brynn and Cam; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Doris Jane Nowaskie; his parents Johnny and Pauline Nowaskie; son-in-law William (Bobe) Coffman, brother Robert Nowaskie, brother-in-law Donnie Osborne; brother and sister-in-law Bernard and Marcella Dreiman; brother and sister-in-law Julius Jr. and Norma Mouzin, sister-in-law Bette Jones.

Teresa A. Yochum, 75, of Bicknell passed away July 15, 2026 at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon, IN with her family at her bedside. Teresa was born January 8, 1951 in Vincennes, the daughter of Loren and Reva L. Kidwell Dupire. She was a graduate of North Knox High School, she married Darrell Yochum, and they made their life together until his death on June 4, 2006. She worked at D&H Glass as office manager for over 30 years running the office and taking orders. She was a member of St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church and was devoted to her family. She was a proud mother and grandmother interested in anything her family was involved in.

She is survived by her children, Annie (Rodney) Schlomer, Amanda (Dave) Wampler and R. Ryan (Stephanie) Yochum. Her beloved grandchildren, Jacob (Nae) Newberg, Megan (Damon) Schlomer, Todd (Amy) Newberg, Emily (James) Blackburn, Trevor Wampler, Emma Wampler, Grant Wampler, Bailey (Jacob) Yochum and David Yochum. Her great grandchildren, Bentley, Briar, Sereniti, Cole, Ollie, Lainey and Tucker. She is also survived by a sister in law, Joan Dupire, her niece Marie and nephews Mark and Jim Dupire.

Teresa was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Yochum, her parents, Loren and Reva Dupire and a brother, Bill Dupire.

Obit for Donald “Don” Trabant
Donald “Don” Trabant, 69, of Oaktown, IN, passed away Friday July 10, 2026 in Evansville with his family at his bedside. Don was born February 23, 1957 in Vincennes the son of Elmer and Ruth Scott Trabant. He was a 1975 graduate of North Knox High School and after high school began his career as a coal miner. He worked in the coal mining industry for over 40 years retiring from Sunrise Coal. On December 2, 1978, he married Eileen Nowaskie and they made their life together for nearly 48 years. Don was a member of St. Francis Xavier/Sacred Heart Catholic Church, United Mine Workers, a plainspoken man he was a character and true friend. He was an avid c**n hunter, and outdoorsman. He loved attending any activities that his grandchildren were involved in. He was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife, Eileen Nowaskie Trabant, his children, Nicholas (Veronica) Trabant, Daniel (Rachelle) Trabant, son in law, Jason Racey, his grandchildren, Olivia Trabant, Will Trabant, Amelia Trabant, Austin Trabant, Cora Trabant, Maddie Trabant, and Logan Trabant. He is also survived by his brothers, Ellis (Ina) Trabant, Bruce Trabant and Raymond Trabant.

Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth A. Trabant Racey in February of 2026, his parents, and a brother, Mark Trabant.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday July 16, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his daughter in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
