👀🖤 Where's Waldo: Where's Saad Qudusi Edition? 🖤👀

Today we celebrated a few of our August birthdays—happy birthday to Dr. Andrew Locher and Dr. Saad Qudusi!

While August is full of resident birthdays, today's celebration included a little secret just for Saad. If you noticed our all-black scrub dress code, it was no coincidence! We surprised him by dressing up as one of our favorite fourth-year residents.

Our residents and staff had a blast with our summer retreat this year. We had a ROARingly good time at the Zoo and then made our way to Bob Walther's for laser tag, bowling, and arcade games. We're already counting down the days until next year's shenanigans!

Dr. Cheryl Gistand won the 2025-2026 Faculty of the Year Award!

She is highly regarded for being deeply invested in the growth and development of our residents, not only in the clinic and hospital settings but also in their personal and professional journeys. Her ability to balance empathy with expertise has earned her a reputation for being compassionate, thorough, insightful, and approachable. Her passion for teaching and mentoring is contagious and inspiring.

Dr. Leena Varshney recently presented at an AMA conference with an engaging poster on 'Balancing Psychiatric Stability and Medical Risk: Rapidly Progressive Hypertriglyceridemia on Valproate and Paliperidone'. In this poster, she helped to illustrate the difficulty of managing psychiatric stability against the risk of metabolic derangements. In rural areas or with patients with insurance barriers, access to primary care may be limited, leading to a greater need for psychiatrists to recognize and respond to medication-related metabolic complications.

Thank you, Dr. Varshney, for helping to provide a little more insight into how we can manage this risk in our residency. We are proud of you and are grateful for you representing our program!

Missed out on our previous DBT groups or wish you could have been a part of the supportive community? We're excited to announce that our clinic is launching a brand new DBT Skills group, starting this Friday from 3-4 ET!

While our last semester sessions were available on a walk-in basis, our new skills group has a brief screen to ensure patients are in a safe mental state and will fit well in group dynamics. This is to guarantee that everyone feels comfortable and supported throughout the program. Our goal is to create a safe space where individuals can share their experiences, learn from each other, and grow together.

Our very own Dr. Jess Tedrow recently presented through the Senior Education Ministries Dine with a Doc program, delivering an excellent talk titled "Senior Moments or Something More: When Forgetfulness Deserves Attention."

The presentation explored how to distinguish normal age-related memory changes from delirium, depression-related cognitive impairment (pseudodementia), and dementia, while reviewing the evaluation and treatment approaches for each. Helping our community better understand cognitive health is an important step toward earlier recognition and improved outcomes.

Great job representing our residency program and serving our community, Jess! We are proud of you!
