"First, do no harm” is not a direct line from Hippocrates or the original Hippocratic Oath. But the underlying principle, help when you can, and at least avoid making things worse, should be central to how we teach and practice breathwork.
Breathing practices can be simple, profound, calming, challenging, and sometimes genuinely intense. That does not mean intensity is always the goal.
The Language of Breath asks us to become better listeners: to the breath, body, nervous system, context, history, and moment-to-moment feedback. The breath is not a machine to optimize or a spiritual obstacle course to conquer. It is communication.
So yes: ask better questions. Use appropriate doses. Give people choices. Know when to slow down. And please do not confuse dizziness with enlightenment! 😀
