Many artists have graciously donated their works to beautify the walls of Navigator Homes. We'll be featuring more artists and their works, but today, we especially want to thank Paul Doherty (right) for his extraordinary donation of 43 of his beautiful photographs (pictures to come). He and his husband, David Behnke (left), also installed them, which is no small task. Noted figures in the art world on the Vineyard and beyond, we are so grateful for their being the first artist donations to NHMV. Paul also volunteers for many organizations on the Island. A heartfelt thank you, Paul!

The Vineyard Gazette covered this wonderful milestone, and one of the most moving moments of the day was watching the five founders cut the ribbon together.

The celebration also included the dedication of two of our homes: Founders House, honoring the vision and perseverance of the organization’s founders, and the Philip J. Norton Family House, recognizing the extraordinary generosity of the Norton family. By selling the land to the hospital at a significantly reduced cost, the Norton family made it possible for the hospital to develop workforce housing for both hospital and Navigator Homes employees and to gift land to Navigator Homes for this project.

Their generosity helped make possible a new model of skilled nursing care on Martha’s Vineyard—five beautiful small homes designed to provide residents with dignity, comfort, community, and a higher standard of care. It was a day filled with gratitude, celebration, and hope for the future.

It was an afternoon of pride and recognition for Navigator Homes Wednesday, at the ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the assisted living facility off Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road.

Come to our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, Reception, and House Tour on Wednesday, June 24 at 1pm!
We will also unveil the naming of two of the homes, Founders House, and Philip J. Norton Family House, with guests Jane Norton and Jeffrey Norton, III. The ceremony will be held at Building #5. Parking is limited. Please carpool or consider public transportation.

On Thursday, May 14th, Ring and Dean were thrilled to represent Health & Human Services, and Homes of Martha’s Vineyard at the and Women’s Hospital Spring Vendor Fair for the Case Management Department!
It was an honor to connect with some of the top nursing and case management professionals in the world and continue building strong relationships focused on quality short-term rehab and long-term care placements.
With ’s Vineyard Hospital proudly affiliated with General Brigham, we look forward to continuing our collaboration across the MGB network for years to come. Thank you to the team for having us! We can’t wait to reconnect again soon!

Meet the Staff: Lori McCarty, Director of Life Enrichment

Lori McCarty brings energy, imagination, and deep compassion to her role as Director of Life Enrichment at Navigator Homes. She is dedicated to creating meaningful experiences for residents—offering not just entertainment, but connection, engagement, and opportunities to keep learning and growing.

Originally from Maine, Lori has spent several years on Martha’s Vineyard, where she served as Activities Director at Windemere. And yes—her creativity extends well beyond the workplace: she loves Legos and even attended clown school, where she learned to juggle and ride a unicycle!

When asked about Navigator Homes, Lori shared:
“This is a great opportunity for a new beginning—especially for our residents to build community here and to bring the community to them.”

Lori’s ideas for Life Enrichment are as vibrant as her personality. She is a superb designer and creator of costumes and props, as seen in the pictures.

For more enrichment and community building, she envisions a campus farmer’s market where residents and families can gather, browse, and enjoy fresh, local goods together. She also hopes to welcome guest musicians, speakers, artists, the Audubon Society, Scout troops, shellfish organizations—truly a wide-ranging community presence.

With Lori’s leadership, Life Enrichment is not just a program—it’s a living, growing part of daily life.
