Milton Ray Adkins 75 years of age of Virgie, passed away Friday, June 6, 2026, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington. He was born on March 5, 1951, to the late Walter Dot Adkins and Mable Brooks Adkins.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jackie Adkins and Benny (Loretta) Adkins; one sister, Margaret Ann Adkins.
He is survived by his wife, Susie Mullins Adkins; one son, Walter (Charmaine) Adkins of Virgie; one daughter, Della Blackburn of Virgie; two brothers, Ace (Mildred) Adkins of Bedford, Gary (Wanda) Adkins of Richmond; one sister, Reba (Roy) Stoffel of Stuart, VA; four grandchildren, Cynthia (Landyon) Blackburn, Steven (Haley) Adkins, Brent Adkins, Heather (Brad) Kiser; three great-grandchildren, Khaleesi Kiser, Vivian Rust, and Edwin Rust.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:00PM at the Hall & Jones Funeral Home with Bethel Freewill Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Dan Adkins Cemetery at Fords Branch. Visitation will begin on Tuesday at the Funeral Home after 6:00PM with nightly services beginning at 7:00PM.

Larry Damron 76 years of age of Virgie, passed away Friday, May 29, 2026, at Pikeville Medical Center. He was born on January 12, 1950, to the late George Washington Damron and Myrtle Adkins Marrs.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Damron; two sisters, Sharon K. Damron and Thelma Kerns.
He is survived by his wife, Lavonne Robinson Damron; two daughters, Bridget (Dale) Lawson of Bowling Green, Tonya (Brad) Bartley of Ashland; two brothers, Roy (Susie) Damron of Robinson Creek, Ricky (Cecilia) Marrs of Flemingsburg; three sisters, Sue (Dale) Ison of Lexington, Linda Brewer of Pikeville, Pauline (Winfrey) Conley of Paintsville; five grandchildren, Brooke (Bret) Hamilton, Whitley (Daniel) Henson, Brody Lawson, Brent Bartley, Brett (Samantha) Bartley; four great-grandchildren, Griffin Hamilton, Greylon Hamilton, Beckham Hamilton, Puck Helmink.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00AM at the Hall & Jones Funeral Home with Johnnie Alvin, Jason Beverly, Chris Bartley, Daniel Henson, and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Rissie Branham Cemetery at Caney. Visitation will begin on Sunday after 6:00PM at the Funeral Home with services beginning at 7:00PM.

Jonathan Andrew Pennell, 38 years of age, of Jenkins, passed away at his residence on May 26, 2026. He was born May 14, 1988, to Robert Pennel and Oma (Adkins) Pennell.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Oma Pennell; one sister-in-law, Melanie Pennell.
Besides his father, he is survived by three brothers, Steven (Melanie) Pennell of Ocala, Florida, Robert (Jaclyn) Pennell of Frankfort, and Jason (Bridget) Pennell of Georgetown; one niece, Caitlyn (Kyle) Hebron; nephews, Cameron (Cassie) Pennell, Colton Pennell, and Bryson Pennell.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 2:00PM at the Hall & Jones Funeral Home, Jenkins Chapel. Visitation will be on Saturday between the hours of 12:00-2:00PM at the Hall and Jones Funeral Home, Jenkins Chapel.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Trina Lynn (Smallwood) Layne.
She was born on August 20, 1958, to Lester Smallwood and Norella Elswick Damron of Phillips Branch at Myra.
Trina was preceded in death by her mother and father; one brother, Barry Layne Smallwood; one daughter, Norella “Sissy” Mullins; and one son, Brandon Scott Newsome.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bobby Layne; one grandson, Zachary (Brooke) Mullins; one granddaughter, Shyanna (Austin) Justice; great-grandson, Walker Justice; brothers, Rodney (Wendy) Smallwood and Terry (Jennifer) Smallwood; her beloved pet dog, Tia.
Trina bravely and courageously battled lymphoma for nine years. She held deep affection for spending time with her family. Especially her grandbabies and her dog. Trina was a beautiful soul who always made sure everyone around her was taken care of and held a firm belief in God’s Love. She was most pleased when she saw others spreading love and kindness.
Trina will forever be in our hearts and the lessons she taught of kindness, living life to the fullest, and love will forever guide all who were blessed to see her light.
Graveside services will be held on Friday at 2:00PM at the Greer Cemetery at Phillips Branch of Beefhide, with Hiram Michael Smith officiating. Burial will follow.

Cleve Tackett, 41 years of age of Floyd County passed away Saturday May 16, 2026 at the UK Medical Center. He was born April 26, 1985 to Ella Branham Tackett of Floyd County and the late Cazzie Tackett.
Other than his father he was preceded in death by two brothers, Mark Tackett and Max Tackett.
Besides his mother he is survived by three sons, Jacob (Sydney) Tackett, Brian Tackett, Brody Tackett; three daughters, Zoe (John) Reynolds, Adrianna (Caden) Tackett. Alexis Tackett; two brothers, Herbie Tackett, Johnny Tackett; six sisters; Cathy Cook, Bridgett Tackett, Michelle Henderson, Rachel Tonseth, Krystal Handcook, Melissa Wegner; and one grandchild, Hudson Hall.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00PM at the Community House of God and Worship with Vernon Johnson and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Frank Tackett Cemetery at Long Fork. Visitation will begin on Monday after 6:00PM at the Church with services nightly beginning at 7:00PM.
In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hall and Jones Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.

Dwight Creech, 66 years of age of Jenkins, passed away Wednesday, May 13th, 2026, at the UK Medical Center. He was born on January 5th, 1960, to the late Melvin and Mable Jean Napier Creech. Dwight was a devoted husband and loving father. He was a retired 27-year member of the National Guard. The most important aspect of his life was his faith. Dwight has been in ministry since 2002 and was a member of the Hemphill Baptist Church. He loved his church family dearly.
Dwight worked in education for over 30 years. He worked for the Knott County Board of Education and was the principal of Carr Creek Elementary School. He took great pride in his work and loved his “tribe”. Over the course of his career, he touched the lives of countless students and facility. When he wasn’t at work you could find Dwight by the lake fishing or watching college football.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Janice Hurst Creech; two daughters, Erica Creech of Newport, Whitney Creech of Bowling Green; two brothers, Darrell Creech of Virgina Beach, James Creech of Hindman; one sister Matilda Kilburn of Martin; his father and mother-in-law, Danny and Rhobenia Hurst. He also leaves behind a host of friends and family to mourn his passing.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1:00PM at the Hemphill Baptist Church with Danny Hurst officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Acres Cemetery at Whitesburg. Visitation will begin on Saturday after 5:00PM at the Church.

Richard Neal Yonts, 85 years of age, of McRoberts, passed away May 5, 2026, at the Whitesburg ARH. He was born on December 27, 1940, to the late Warren G. Yonts and Pauline Mosgrove Yonts.
He was a US Army Veteran, a member of the Millstone Missionary Baptist Church, Jenkins High School class of 1958, President of Eastern KY. Black Lung Association, a retired coal miner of 35 years from Consol Coal Company, had worked at the Letcher County Road Dept., LKLP Transportation, member of the UMWA, a former Master Mason at the Jenkins Lodge, President of the Jenkins Jaycees and had coached Little League football and basketball.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Richard “Rick” Yonts II, Gregory Yonts.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Bentley Yonts of McRoberts, one step-son, Richard Kelly Jensen of Louisiana; one step daughter, Amanda (Denley) Lucas of Thornton; two brothers, Terry “Rocky” (Denise) Yonts of Jeremiah, James Dean (Bessie) Yonts of McRoberts; two grandchildren, Richard Craig Yonts, Amanda Yonts; five grandchildren, Richard Caiden Yonts, Gavin Collins, Alyssa Yonts, Xander Blake Collins, Kaydance Hoskins; seven step grandchildren, Willow Adkins, Summer Adkins, Aaron Jensen, Isaac Lucas, Bella Lucas, Noah Lucas, Carley Lucas; one great-great-grandchild, Ryder Dewayne Collins.

Sheryl Ann Belcher 68 years of age of Wi******er, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2026, at her residence. She was born on September 8, 1957, a daughter to the late Gene and Genive Justice Adkins and Arthur and Oma Ray Belcher.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by parents, Gene and Genive Justice Adkins; brothers, James Belcher and Charlie Belcher; sisters, Anna Johnson, Linda Cook, Judy Gilliam, and Oma Riddle.
She is survived by her companion, Noah Combs and his daughter, Kim; brothers, Ricky (Tammy) Adkins, Nuddy (Jenny) Adkins, Harrison Belcher; sisters, Judy (Bobby) Robinson, Kaye (James) Hopkins, Wanda (Gary) Adkins, Audrey Beverly, Marsha Ankel Mann, Ellen Negley-Coyer.
