Juneteenth marks the day when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Today, we honor the courage, resilience, and determination of those who endured the injustice of slavery and never stopped believing in the promise of freedom.

As we celebrate this historic day, let us reflect on how far we have come and recommit ourselves to building a future rooted in opportunity, justice, and equality for all.

May we continue to honor the sacrifices of the past by creating a stronger and more united Commonwealth for future generations.
