Summer is here… and so are the bladder irritants. ☀️🍹
If you’re running to the bathroom more often, feeling increased urgency, or noticing bladder discomfort, take a look at what’s in your cup.
Common bladder irritants include:
🍋 Citrus drinks
☕ Coffee
🥤 Carbonated beverages
🍷 Alcohol
⚡ Energy drinks
Notice what’s missing from that list? WATER. 💧
One thing many people don’t realize is that carbonation and alcohol can be a double whammy for a sensitive bladder. If you choose to drink alcohol this summer, options without carbonation (like a Surfside or other flat alcoholic beverages) may be less irritating for some people than beer, hard seltzers, or mixed drinks with bubbly mixers.
That doesn’t mean you have to give up every summer drink you enjoy—but if urgency, frequency, or bladder leaks are showing up at the pool, beach, or boat dock, your bladder may be trying to tell you something.
And if you’re avoiding activities because you’re worried about finding a bathroom, pelvic floor physical therapy can help.
