Things first-time moms often worry about that you truly don’t need to 🤍

• Having the “perfect” birth plan
• Timing every single contraction perfectly
• What labor will look like compared to someone else’s
• Knowing exactly when labor will begin
• Whether every moment is being done “right”
• Packing or buying every single thing social media says you need

Every labor and birth is different. Your body, your baby, and your story are uniquely yours. ✨

Education is a beautiful thing and preparing for birth matters — but overconsumption can quickly become overwhelming and anxiety-producing. Sometimes the best thing you can do is pause, breathe, and reconnect with your intuition.

Flexibility during labor is essential. Birth often asks us to surrender, adapt, and trust the process moment by moment. The goal isn’t perfection — it’s support, safety, and feeling empowered through the journey.

You were never meant to know everything before becoming a mother. One step, one contraction, one moment at a time. 🤍

What you feel during labor matters more than most people realize 🤍

Your body is designed to birth—but it responds directly to your environment and emotions.

When you feel safe and supported:
• Your body releases oxytocin, the hormone that drives contractions
• You’re more likely to relax, soften, and allow labor to progress naturally

When fear or stress is present:
• The body can shift into a fight-or-flight response
• This can slow contractions, increase tension, and make labor feel more intense

This is why environment matters so much in birth:
• Dim lighting
• Quiet, calm space
• Supportive people you trust
• Feeling undisturbed and respected

Birth isn’t just physical—it’s deeply mental and emotional too. Creating a space where you feel safe can completely change how labor unfolds.

Growing a baby during the summer months can feel extra exhausting, so give yourself plenty of grace and listen closely to your body.

A few simple ways to stay more comfortable during pregnancy in the heat:

• Wear loose, lightweight clothing
• Stay hydrated throughout the day
• Prioritize electrolytes and nourishing snacks
• Seek shade whenever possible
• Avoid being outside during peak heat hours
• Rest often and slow down when needed

If you begin feeling lightheaded, dizzy, overheated, or nauseous, head indoors and cool off in the AC. That’s your body’s way of telling you it needs a break. 🌿

Pregnancy already asks so much of your body — summer heat can intensify that quickly. Cooling down, hydrating, and resting are not “being lazy”… they’re part of taking care of yourself and your baby. 🤍

Postpartum isn’t talked about enough—but it should be 🤍

There’s so much focus on preparing for birth, but what happens after matters just as much:

• Your body needs time to heal—this isn’t a quick recovery, even after an uncomplicated birth
• Rest plays a huge role in healing, hormone balance, and overall recovery
• Support is essential—meals, help around the house, and emotional care all make a difference
• Your emotions may shift as hormones adjust and you step into a completely new role

Postpartum is not just about caring for your baby—
it’s about caring for you, too.

✨ The more supported you are, the better your recovery can be.

Save this for later 🤍

Hydration during pregnancy impacts nearly every system in your body — energy levels, circulation, amniotic fluid, digestion, headaches, swelling, muscle cramps, contractions, and even how you feel mentally throughout the day.

One of the best things you can do is take small sips consistently throughout the day instead of trying to chug large amounts all at once. 🌿

If you’re getting tired of plain water, try adding:

• Fresh lemon or lime
• Fruit slices like strawberry, orange, or cucumber
• Electrolytes
• Coconut water
• Herbal iced teas

Your body is working incredibly hard right now. Nourish it well. 🤍

Fear can create tension.
Peace creates space.

In a calm, familiar home environment, your body can fully relax—allowing labor hormones to flow the way they’re meant to. This is where physiological birth thrives.

Let go of what you think it should look like.
Step into what your body already knows how to do.

✨ Peace is powerful in birth.

If sleep feels harder during pregnancy… you’re not imagining it 🤍

There’s a lot happening behind the scenes that can affect your rest:
• Hormonal shifts can make it harder to fall or stay asleep
• Increased blood volume + circulation keep your body working even at night
• Baby’s movement often picks up when you’re finally trying to wind down

A few things that can actually help:
• Side-lying with support (pillows between legs + under belly) to reduce pressure
• Magnesium + calming nighttime routines to support your nervous system
• Consistent hydration during the day (not all at night) to avoid disruptions

Sleep may look different in this season—and that’s okay. Your body is doing important work, even when it doesn’t feel like rest is coming easily.

Top labor prep tips from a midwife 🤍

There’s no perfect formula for birth, but preparing your mind, body, and environment can make a huge difference in how supported and confident you feel during labor.

A few of the biggest things we recommend:

• Practice breathing techniques before labor begins
• Learn relaxation tools ahead of time so they feel familiar
• Move freely and change positions often during labor
• Create an environment that feels warm, calm, and safe
• Surround yourself with supportive people you trust
• Consider hiring a doula for continuous labor support
• Stay flexible and work with your body, not against it

Labor is not about “performing perfectly.” It’s about feeling supported enough to surrender to the process one moment at a time. ✨

Your body was designed to communicate with you during labor — listening, breathing, resting, and feeling safe all matter more than most moms realize.

You don’t have to think about the entire birth—just this moment.

Labor becomes more manageable when you take it one breath, one contraction at a time. Your strength isn’t in “handling it all”… it’s in staying present through each wave.

You can do this moment.
And then the next.

🤍 That’s how birth unfolds.

PART 2 🤍

One thing more moms need to hear: hormonal fluctuations after birth are completely normal and physiological. Your body experiences a massive shift postpartum physically, emotionally, mentally, and hormonally all at once.

Mood swings, crying spells, irritability, feeling overwhelmed, and emotional ups and downs can happen during those early postpartum weeks. 🌿

However, if these feelings continue past the first couple weeks, become more intense, or begin interfering with daily life, please reach out for support. You do not have to struggle alone.

Sometimes postpartum emotional challenges can be connected to:

• Nutritional deficiencies
• Lack of sleep and recovery
• Minimal family or community support
• Overstimulation and mental exhaustion
• Anxiety, depression, or deeper postpartum mental health concerns

Resources that can help:

• Your midwife or OB provider
• Postpartum Support International (PSI)
• A licensed postpartum therapist or counselor
• Lactation consultants for breastfeeding-related stress
• Local mom support groups or postpartum doulas

Asking for help is not weakness — postpartum was never meant to be done alone. 🤍
